Who builds our future?

That was the question at the heart of our Presidents Lunch.

Industry leaders, apprentices, educators and government came together to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Tasmania’s building and construction workforce. Importantly, the practical steps we can take to grow it.

We were pleased to hear from the Hon Eric Abetz MLC, Treasurer and Minister responsible for Macquarie Point, who shared his insights on the future of Tasmania and the role our industry will play in building it.

A highlight of the afternoon was hearing from Apprentice of the Year 2024 award winner Fletcher Cashion. His story was a powerful reminder that every builder starts somewhere and that giving someone an opportunity today helps build a stronger Tasmania tomorrow.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate our carpentry apprentice Liz, who has been named one of just 15 women across Australia to receive a support package through the 2026 Bunnings Women in Apprenticeships Awards.

At 45, Liz made the courageous decision to change careers and enter the construction industry while raising her son, Oliver, as a single mum. She chose this path to create a better future while showing Oliver that it's never too late to back yourself, learn new skills and achieve your goals.

Liz brings determination, positivity and a genuine passion for her trade to every day on site. She is excelling in her TAFE studies, embraces every opportunity to learn and generously gives back by mentoring other women looking to enter the construction industry.

This award recognises everything Liz stands for, resilience, commitment, and leading by example. We couldn't be prouder to have her on our team.

Turning Tassie’s biggest build into its biggest classroom 🏟️

Today, the High Vis Army presented a proposal for a Learning Hub at the Macquarie Point stadium site.

The Hub would give every Tasmanian student in Years 9 to 12 the opportunity to experience the State's biggest construction project firsthand.

With more than 600 workers needed during construction, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to inspire the next generation of tradies.

Not just to build the stadium, but to build the homes, roads, bridges and infrastructure Tasmania will need for years to come.

A legacy that lasts well beyond the build.
