Inside the wall of one of Tasmania’s highest hydro storages, FRW Industrial helped support the careful inspection of infrastructure that plays a quiet but vital role in powering the state.
At Lake Mackenzie, within the Central Plateau Conservation Area and the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, FRW Industrial worked in partnership with Hydro Tasmania to deliver mechanical maintenance, inspection support and confined space management across two challenging locations: The Mackenzie Dam wall and the forebay.
Our team enabled safe access for Hydro Tasmania engineers to inspect conduits, perform general maintenance, and collect oil samples, supporting the ongoing reliability of the Mersey–Forth hydroelectric scheme.
Formed in 1972 after the construction of Mackenzie Dam, Lake Mackenzie remains the highest water storage in the scheme, which contributes approximately 338 megawatts, or around 16 per cent of Tasmania’s electricity.
For FRW Industrial, it was another opportunity to support critical renewable energy infrastructure in one of Tasmania’s most significant natural and engineered environments.
