Cyclone warnings have been raised east of Darwin, ahead of strong Tropical Cyclone Fina.
For Darwin, it is now time to make your preparations. The latest forecast track map as predicted takes the storm further south, now about 50km north of Darwin on closest approach.
Darwin will now likely cop a direct hit, with Fina likely to be the strongest cyclone in the Darwin region since Marcus of 2018.
Because of the storms small size, this will have some pretty gnarly impacts on the scene in Darwin and will likely bring some strong wind gusts into the City.
Darwin is no stranger to tropical cyclones and most of the buildings within the city will have no problem with gusts up to 150km/h, however there are some small things you can do to ensure this cyclone is of no threat to you and your family.
Trim up the garden, have enough water on standby (5L/person/day) so fill your bathtub, have non perishable foods ready, ensure your genny is working and fueled up, and make sure neighbors and family are in the know.
If you live in a flood prone location, ensure you have sandbags ready and in place ahead of a potential 400mm deluge depending on the movement and intensity of Cyclone Fina.
A storm of this strength CAN be damaging, but if you prepare adequately, you have little to be worried about.
