Using a generator can keep essential appliances running during a power outage, but improper use can be deadly. Stay safe with these tips:
❗ Always use outdoors – Generators produce deadly carbon monoxide. Never run one inside your home, garage, or enclosed space. Keep it at away from windows and doors.
⚠️ Ensure proper ventilation – Position the generator in a dry, well-ventilated area to prevent fumes from building up.
🔌 Use a licensed electrician – If connecting to your home’s wiring, ensure to have the switch installed by a qualified electrician
⚡ Avoid overloading – only use heavy duty leads to connect appliances or your home, be mindful of what appliances are in use in regards to your generator capacity.
As a rough guide most domestic generators range from 2000w - 5000w loading capacity.

- kettle 2400w
- microwave 1000w to 2000w
- hot water 3600w
- smaller air conditioning units up to 5000w
- water pumps 1000w to 1500w
- grey water / bio cycle pumps 1000w to 1500w
- Led lighting 9w per light upto 250w per house
🔥 Let it cool before refueling – Adding fuel to a hot generator can cause fires. Always turn it off and let it cool first.
Keep a fire extinguisher in close proximity to the generator if required.
