A few more photos of the completed balustrades at the Pigott’s Building in Toowoomba, following our earlier post.

We used 3D laser measuring and 3D modelling to get the fit right across the stairways and landings, tying the new balustrades into the existing timber structure.

Great working with Northbuild on this project!

Some photos from another completed handrail project.

These galvanised steel handrails run along the timber boardwalk, stairs and access path, following the different levels and changes in direction throughout the area.

A practical project with plenty of bends and sections to bring together.

We completed the fabrication for this shade sail at Coomera Anglican College a while ago and finally had the chance to stop by and take some finished photos.

This was a supply-only job, with BIA Engineering fabricating the steel posts and support framework before they were installed and completed on site by others.

It’s always good to see our workshop fabrication as part of the finished project.

BIA Engineering is looking for an experienced tradesperson to join our team.

The role offers a mix of workshop fabrication and site installation across commercial and industrial projects throughout South East Queensland.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• Recognised boilermaker trade qualification
• Professional welding and fabrication experience
• Stainless steel TIG welding experience
• Construction-site and installation experience
• Confidence reading drawings and working independently
• Ability to solve unexpected problems on site
• White Card and current driver’s licence
• Australian working rights

This position is for an experienced tradesperson and is not suitable for apprentices.

A quick update on this project.

After measuring the existing stairwell and creating a 3D model, the stainless-steel handrails and balustrade framework have now been fabricated and installed.

There were several stair flights, landings and changes in direction, so getting the measurements right from the beginning made a big difference during installation.

This project is getting close to the finish line.

The new balustrades are now installed throughout the Pigott’s Building, with only the final touches remaining.

Each section was made to suit the existing building, and it’s great to see everything coming together on site.

Another stair balustrade project underway.

We were on site using our 3D scanner to capture the existing staircase before drafting and fabrication.

With all the different angles, levels and fixing points involved, having a 3D scan gives us a clear picture to work from back at the workshop and helps make fabrication and installation much more straightforward.

Another one is underway for the BIA Engineering team.

Another batch of balustrade panels taking shape in our North Tivoli workshop.

The team has been working through the setting out, forming and welding, making sure the measurements and spacing remain consistent across every panel.

There is still more work to be done before installation, but everything is progressing well and the full project is starting to come together.

Another project nearly finished in the workshop.

This heavy-duty steel ramp has been fabricated for forklift access. The main sections are assembled, the chequer plate deck is in place, and the team is now completing the remaining welding and fit-up work before installation.

WE’RE HIRING – WORKSHOP & SITE LABOURER

BIA Engineering is looking for a casual labourer to join our metal fabrication team in North Tivoli.

The role includes:

- Assisting fabricators in the workshop
- Helping with on-site installations
- Preparing and moving materials
- Using basic hand and power tools
- General workshop and labouring duties

We’re looking for someone reliable, physically fit and willing to learn.

A White Card and driver’s licence are required. Experience with tools, metal fabrication or construction is helpful but not essential.

Casual position with ongoing work available for the right person.
