Another stair balustrade project underway.

We were on site using our 3D scanner to capture the existing staircase before drafting and fabrication.

With all the different angles, levels and fixing points involved, having a 3D scan gives us a clear picture to work from back at the workshop and helps make fabrication and installation much more straightforward.

Another batch of balustrade panels taking shape in our North Tivoli workshop.

The team has been working through the setting out, forming and welding, making sure the measurements and spacing remain consistent across every panel.

There is still more work to be done before installation, but everything is progressing well and the full project is starting to come together.

Another project nearly finished in the workshop.

This heavy-duty steel ramp has been fabricated for forklift access. The main sections are assembled, the chequer plate deck is in place, and the team is now completing the remaining welding and fit-up work before installation.

WE’RE HIRING – WORKSHOP & SITE LABOURER

BIA Engineering is looking for a casual labourer to join our metal fabrication team in North Tivoli.

The role includes:

- Assisting fabricators in the workshop
- Helping with on-site installations
- Preparing and moving materials
- Using basic hand and power tools
- General workshop and labouring duties

We’re looking for someone reliable, physically fit and willing to learn.

A White Card and driver’s licence are required. Experience with tools, metal fabrication or construction is helpful but not essential.

Casual position with ongoing work available for the right person.

Another balustrade project is underway in the workshop.

The team has been busy fabricating each section and making sure everything is lined up properly before it goes to site. It's the little details during fabrication that help make installation smoother and ensure a quality finish.

Getting the measurements right before fabrication.

Not everything is built exactly as shown on the drawings, which is why we always like to measure on site before we start fabricating.

For this project, we used our Leica DISTO and DISTO Plan app to capture the actual dimensions, helping us make sure everything fits as it should when it's time to install.

Taking a little extra time to measure properly helps reduce rework, speeds up installation, and avoids unnecessary surprises on site.

It's a simple step that makes a big difference.

From a screen full of lines to a finished set of handrails.

We recently completed these handrails for a new concrete access ramp at Beaucare.

First, we used our 3D laser measuring tool to capture the completed ramp. The site data was then used to produce the shop drawings, ready for our workshop team to fabricate each section before installation.

Technology has definitely changed the way we measure a job, but there is still plenty of hands-on work between the first scan and the finished result.

Not every project that comes through our workshop looks the same.

For this project, we fabricated and installed the coloured screening panels as specified by the client. The combination of colours helps give the building its own identity while still providing a practical and durable solution for the site.

From structural steel and handrails through to screening, gates and custom fabrication, we enjoy being involved in a wide range of projects across South East Queensland.

Every job is different, and that's part of what keeps the work interesting.
