Calling all HDJ100 owners
Who'd be keen on a proper bolt-in ZF 8-speed conversion for the 1HD-FTE?
The FTE is an engine with legendary status, but the 4-speed auto is its weak link. High cruising revs, big gaps between gears, slow off the mark, and it works hard towing. A ZF 8HP fixes the lot: a tall overdrive for quiet, low-RPM highway cruising and better economy, a deeper first for crawling and launches, and a modern locking converter that runs cooler under load.
We've just imported a clean 100 out of Japan as a dedicated development car and started the 3D scanning process. The whole brief is bolt-in and factory-as-possible — keep the factory transfer case, keep driveline geometry close to stock, no cutting the tunnel or hacking the loom.
Early days yet, but we will keep plenty of posts coming of the progress.
