Ever wondered what it takes to manufacture a pin at Geographe, especially our pins?
At our Bunbury facility in Western Australia, every pin starts its life as a certified steel bar. It's not just a piece of metal, it’s a material with a passport! Sizing and heat certificates are checked and confirmed before it even enters our stock.
From there, the transformation begins:
1. Faced & Centred: Our Okuma Australia + New Zealand MA-600HB prepares the raw bar for stability and accuracy in subsequent operations.
2. Precision Machined: Complex turning and profiling are performed on our 5-axis Okuma Multus U5000, supported by a robotic handling system for consistency and repeatability.
3. Induction Hardened and Tempered: Heat treatment followed by controlled quenching creates a wear-resistant outer surface while maintaining a tough supportive core. Tempering relieves induced internal stresses and optimises hardness.
4. Ground: The pin is ground to exact tolerances for dimensional accuracy and precise surface finish.
5. Surface Protected: A corrosion-inhibiting spray coating is applied to safeguard the component from rust during storage and transport.
6. Inspected & Certified: Final inspection takes place in our climate-controlled environment, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 quality standards. Certified components are then dispatched for use in equipment such as and excavators.
What does this mean for our mine site customers? A reliable, enhanced-performing part that resists seizure, saves on downtime, and upholds maintenance standards.
