📣 Calling Main Street Businesses!

The organisers of Lap It Up Leeton 2026 have asked the Leeton Business Chamber to gauge interest from local retailers in opening and trading during this year's event on Saturday 29 August.

With hundreds of locals and visitors expected to be in town for the evening, this could be a great opportunity to showcase your business and capture additional trade.

At this stage, we're simply looking to understand the level of interest.

The news from SunRice is deeply concerning for Leeton and our wider region. Behind every job lost is a family, and the effects will be felt right across our local economy.

The impact extends well beyond those directly employed. Local businesses, contractors, suppliers, retailers, hospitality venues and community organisations all rely on a strong regional economy, and reduced economic activity affects us all.

The announcement also highlights the long-term consequences of water buybacks and broader Murray–Darling Basin water policy. Water recovered from productive agriculture has real impacts on the industries that depend on secure and reliable water. When agricultural production declines, processors, manufacturers, transport operators and small businesses across the supply chain feel the impact.

Regional communities need policy that delivers environmental outcomes while protecting the jobs, industries and businesses that sustain our towns.

The Leeton Business Chamber stands with the employees, families and businesses affected by this announcement. We will continue to advocate for policies that strengthen our regional economy, protect local jobs and ensure communities like ours have a sustainable future.

May has gone by so quickly!

What a fantastic night at the inaugural My Business Journey event hosted by the Leeton Business Chamber.

A huge thank you to our panellists for openly sharing their stories, lessons learned, challenges, and business journeys with the local community. One of the standout themes from the night was local businesses supporting each other, and interestingly, all three speakers started their journey with a trade qualification.

It was great to see so many local business owners come together to connect, network, share stories, and enjoy a relaxed evening with great food and conversation.

Some of the most interesting discussions came from questions like:
• What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
• If you could have a coffee with anyone from the past or present, who would it be and why?

This is just the beginning, with three more events still to come. Keep an eye out for the next My Business Journey event.
