The current trend is showing less than 5% of lending currently goes into newly built houses. The majority is still buying existing house rather than funding new houses. If even a small proportion of Sydney investors shift towards new construction, this could materially increase new builds. Negative gearing is still allowed for NEW BUILDS.

It is going to stimulate construction activity, and it could also push up land and construction prices.
