Turning E-waste into clean energy is possible—and it’s already lighting up homes in places with no electricity.

We were proud to show delegates from Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, and Tonga how our recycled e-waste systems are powering communities in Indonesia and beyond.

Such an incredible day as PowerWells, ActionAid Australia and ActionAid Vanuatu officially handed over the solar energy project to the Lawital Community in North Tanna.

This is the first time Lawital has seen a project of this scale — a powerful milestone for a community that has too often been overlooked.

Even more inspiring is the fact that local women are leading this transformation — trained as solar technicians, managing a community energy fund, and using renewable energy to create lasting change.

We’re so proud to have been part of this women-led, community-powered journey. 🌞⚡

Thank you Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for funding this program.

Last year, ActionAid's Flora Vano travelled to the in the Hague to deliver testimony on behalf of women and their communities in Vanuatu who are demanding that polluting countries like Australia take responsibility for their part in the crisis.

And overnight, the ICJ delivered its verdict - that polluting countries have an obligation to urgently phase out fossil fuels and ensure climate plans align with a 1.5°C future as well as compensating frontline communities for the climate damage they have caused.

This is a historic day for communities across the Pacific and beyond, on the frontlines of the climate crisis. This is what Flora had to say: "The powerful polluters don't seem to care that their actions are destroying countries like mine, and intensifying burdens on women, who often bear the brunt of climate impacts. We can feel so helpless as we lose our homes, our livelihoods, and our safety to terrifying storms and rising seas."

"This historic legal decision from the ICJ gives us hope that communities, especially women and girls on the frontlines of this crisis, will finally be able to fight back for justice and accountability."

"This ruling is a powerful tool we can use to demand that those most responsible for this climate crisis be held accountable. As the planet’s weather becomes more chaotic, this ruling paves the way for the protections and reparations we desperately need to rebuild our lives and secure a just future."

Shining a light on some of the incredible women powering change behind the scenes in Vanuatu.

Meet Dalila, Esther, and Janet — passionate community mobilizers from Women I Tok Tok Tugetha — alongside Flora and Helen from ActionAid Vanuatu. These women are not only uplifting their own communities, but also improving the lives and wellbeing of women across the country.

Without their leadership and dedication, many of these villages would still be in the dark.

Just some snaps from our recent trip to Tanna, Vanuatu.

⚡ Empowering Women Through Renewable Energy ⚡

A jam-packed week in Tanna, Vanuatu, working alongside ActionAid Vanuatu and the Women I TokTok Tugeta (WITT) network to run hands-on renewable energy workshops!

Our goal? To empower women with the skills and confidence to take ownership of energy. For many, this was their first time using a screwdriver—let alone power tools, multimeters, wire st*****rs, and soldering irons! But by the end of the training, they were assembling and installing solar systems like pros.

These workshops are more than just technical training—they’re about creating opportunities, independence, and energy security for communities.

The solar units are provided to households through the WITT network on an affordable, agreed-upon monthly rent-to-own basis, with all funds going directly back into their community fund.

Special thanks to ActionAid Australia, ActionAid Vanuatu, and the Australian Government for making this possible!
