Take a look at the ScotSteel design software demo to see how easy steel framing design can really be!

In this walkthrough, Scottsdale team member, Mateo Camara, demonstrates how quickly users can move from architectural plans to fully framed cold-formed steel models inside the ScotSteel environment. The demo highlights automated wall framing, rapid floor and roof truss generation, custom roof truss design functionality, engineering analysis, and seamless design adjustments.

The video also showcases how ScotSteel helps streamline the design-to-production workflow with powerful automation, flexible editing tools, and intelligent framing capabilities for complex projects.

We often use the terms “roll forming machine” and “steel framing machine” interchangeably, but there is a key difference between the two.

A roll former is designed to take flat coil steel and progressively shape it into a profile such as stud, track, roof panel, purlin, deck, or channel. In many cases, it simply forms the profile and cuts it to length.

A steel framing machine takes the process much further. By connecting engineering, design, detailing, and CNC manufacturing, it produces ready-to-assemble framing systems complete with service holes, dimples, notches, swages, identification marks, and precise cut lengths. Every member is manufactured according to the digital building model and in the sequence required for assembly.

The difference is simple: a roll former produces shapes, while a steel framing machine produces intelligent building systems. Advanced steel framing machines are the key to addressing modern construction needs. Learn more about the two systems at https://www.scottsdalesteelframes.com/resources/faqs.

Thermal performance continues to be a focus in modern cold-formed steel framing design, especially as energy codes and building performance expectations continue to evolve.

Our new guide explores how thermal bridging impacts CFS wall assemblies, why steel framing requires a different thermal strategy than wood framing, and how designers can improve effective R-values through continuous insulation, air barriers, and smarter wall detailing. The article also breaks down:

- V***r drive direction by climate zone

- V***r retarder classifications

- Prescriptive wall assembly solutions

- Effective R-value considerations

- Advanced strategies for maximizing thermal performance

For builders, engineers, and manufacturers working with cold-formed steel framing, understanding thermal bridging is critical to delivering high-performance building envelopes while maintaining the speed, precision, and durability advantages of steel construction. Every Australian builder in 2026 is facing the same challenge: more housing demand, fewer available trades, and increasing pressure to deliver projects faster.

The National Housing Accord calls for 1.2 million new homes by mid-2029, yet Australia is already estimated to be short between 200,000 and 300,000 dwellings. At the same time, the Housing Industry Association has identified a shortage of approximately 83,000 construction workers.

Meeting these targets will require more than working harder; it will require better technology and more efficient construction methods. Steel framing technology gives builders greater control over production, quality, scheduling, and scalability. Combined with modern design software and roll forming technology, steel framing can help reduce labor dependence while supporting panelized, modular, and traditional construction workflows.

Our latest article explores why more Australian homebuilders are bringing steel framing capability in-house and why you should too.

Factory-built wall, floor, and roof panels are accelerating project timelines, reducing on-site labor, and improving overall build quality.

In the U.S. market, panelization is gaining real traction, with panelized and modular cold-formed steel now accounting for roughly 26% of new commercial buildings in North America, with adoption accelerating in mid-rise and multifamily. At the same time, about 40% of framing mills are already producing panelized assemblies. The data also shows regional differences: the Midwest and West are outpacing other regions in growth, while the East continues to lead in overall volume with a deep project pipeline.

What’s driving the shift? Greater demand for speed, tighter labor markets, and the need for predictable, scalable construction workflows.

With the right roll forming ecosystem, panelization becomes a fully integrated design-to-production process. From digital modeling to labeled, ready-to-install systems, the gap between design and construction continues to shrink. On this World Environment Day, we reaffirm our commitment to building more sustainably.

Our technology achieves up to 99% material utilization through an intelligent, software-driven manufacturing process. Every punch, notch, and service opening is precisely designed in ScotSteel, while ScotRF communicates that data directly to our roll forming systems to manufacture steel framing systems exactly as intended.

The result is exceptional accuracy, minimal material waste, and maximum production efficiency.

Beyond manufacturing efficiency, steel is one of the world's most sustainable construction materials. It is 100% recyclable and can be recycled repeatedly without losing its properties, helping support a more circular construction economy.

Think Green. Think Light-Gauge Steel. Think Scottsdale.

🏠 What does affordable housing at scale actually look like?

At the National Association of Home Builders International Builders' Show in Orlando, ScotCyd caught up with Kishor of Framecrete to discuss how Scottsdale roll forming technology is supporting major housing developments across the Caribbean.

📍 3,000 homes in Barbados
📍 900 homes in St. Kitts
📍 600 homes in Aruba

The goal isn't just to build houses—it's to create durable, fire-resistant homes while minimizing material waste and maximizing efficiency. When housing demand reaches thousands of units, precision manufacturing and streamlined construction methods become game changers.

From roll forming machinery to completed communities, this is a look at how innovative construction technology is helping address housing needs on a larger scale.

For drywall and curtainwall framing contractors, profitability often comes down to two critical factors: how light a gauge you can run, and how much linear footage you can produce per hour. Every stoppage for profile changeovers, wasted coil, or slow output impacts margins.

The Knudson by Scottsdale KFD Framemaker 2025 was engineered to help fabricators compete where it matters most. Designed for high-efficiency production, it delivers smart profile features such as stiffening ribs, knurled faces, and inward-bent lips that add value beyond basic framing and roll forming. These details can support performance, improve handling, enhance screw engagement, and contribute to code-compliant sections.

For suppliers serving drywall and curtainwall markets, this is a technology built not just for output, but for stronger systems and better returns. 🎩 Meet the profile that puts the "top hat" in top-notch engineering.

At IBS in Orlando, I got to show off another one of Scottsdales cold-formed steel profiles: the Omega profile, also known as the top hat truss shape.

I'm holding a sample truss member above my head to demonstrate just how *light* light-gauge steel can be.

Don't let the weight fool you though! This profile is engineered to increase stiffness and extend clearspans in floor systems and roof trusses, making larger open spaces possible with less material.

One of the clever advantages of the ScotTruss 6050 system is that it uses the same width galvanized steel coil as the Scotpanel 7090G2. For manufacturers, that means fewer coil sizes to inventory while producing wall framing, floor systems, and roof trusses from the same stock material.

Lighter than most people expect.
Stronger than most people realize.

I'm Cydney... let's roll. 🤘

The light-gauge steel framing global market continues to expand, growing from $38.11B in 2025 to $39.32B in 2026, and projected to reach $52.01B by 2032 at a 4.53% CAGR. The direction is clear: demand for scalable, high-performance building systems is accelerating.

Recent U.S. tariff actions are pushing the industry toward regional sourcing, capacity reservations, and full material traceability across galvanized, PVC coated, and Zincalume steel. At the same time, regional priorities are evolving with modular construction in the Americas, performance-driven requirements in EMEA, and high-volume modularization across APAC.

Roll forming technology is what enables all of it. With fully integrated design, engineering, and manufacturing workflows, Scottsdale’s ecosystem supports localized production, traceability, and precision-built steel framing at scale.

This is how the industry moves forward with faster, smarter, and perfectly engineered systems. Read the full report at https://www.researchandmarkets.com/report/light-gauge-steel-framing?rmtoken=nzr8q2jil.
