We have just delivered the new childcare centre, called Tree House, for ACP Builders which will provide a key service for the residents of the master planned neighbourhood.

It's World Rainforest Day!

As Steel Frame suppliers, we are all for trees staying in the ground… where they are meant to be.

Yet we were shocked to learn that in QLD, where our HQ is located, the state's recycling rate is at a dismal 44% which is one of the lowest in the country. Shame on us!

At AFS, we see supporting our community as essential and that extends to our precious environment.

Plastics leach chemicals (fire-retardants, parabens, artificial dyes) into soil and water systems impacting the delicate ecosystems we cherish and want to show our grandkids.

The AFS team want to be part of the solution so we are gathering up our plastics, cans and glass to recycle - it's a no brainer!

How do we resource this volume of projects in one year?

8 Townhouse Developments (681 dwellings) + several standalone homes; various commercial buildings plus 3 Aged Care Facility; 4 Schools; 1 Hospital + 1 Xray clinic; 5 Childcare Centres; and 1 Neighbourhood Centre.

It comes back to our people, processes, machinery, and ongoing commitment to training... that together delivers our leading manufacturing capacity.

AFS has 3 manufacturing facilities with 65 team members that roll and assemble up to 34,000 lineal metres per day (for context, that is approx. 11 townhouses/day!!).

At AFS, we assemble your steel frames as they come off the machine which is the most efficient production method. These are then packaged ready for delivery to site.

Cool roof, what's that? Blackall Hospital features ARAMAX® structural roofing that covers large spans (20m) with no purlins or girts which can eliminate structural steel costs.

However this post is to acknowledge our fantastic team who designed, supplied and installed steel framing for the new 1,892sqm Blackall Hospital in central west QLD during the first lockdown (a year ago!), 967km from AFS HQ.

At the time, all major construction sites in QLD were closed and was required to build under new safety regulations which influenced construction being re-opened as an essential service.

We commend our team for their exceptional effort:
- Jed Burgess, Design Manager and team, accurate as ever!
- Shane Carter, Factory and Logistics Manager and team, seamless delivery!
- Nick Addison, Construction Manager and team, timely installation of a high profile build during a time of many unknowns!

We are looking to expand our supervision team, overseeing carpenters and sub-contract installation crews across SEQLD.

Candidates ideally will have experience in steel framing installation on residential and commercial projects, knowledge of building codes/standards and are able to read plans and layouts.

How do we continually exceed customer expectations?

We know Detailing Specialists are few and far between, and a real bottleneck for the construction industry so at , we have tackled this head-on.

We have developed and implemented a first-of-its-kind CAD (computer aided design) drawing cadetship program which offers full time, paid, training over 12 months with employment opportunities at the end of the program.

AFS also focuses on upskilling and mentoring team members individually and as a group, and provides practical development opportunities including site visits to build our team's acumen in our craft.

This investment in our people keeps AFS positioned as an employer of choice and helps resolve the shortage of Detailers in the construction industry.

These initiatives allow us to resource our projects, continue to grow our capability, and expand our team.
