Moving my office into a new box/building and while cleaning up some old brochures I found some really old ones, these go back to the late 90s, but I do have some from even earlier to go through yet.
Back then we sold a LOT of BP Solar modules, the biggest panel was 80 watts, and I still remember thinking Wow, imagine the things we can do with this much power when it was released. :)
Considering we now start at 370 watts, and 450w is also common we have certainly come a long way. I was checking out a 610w panel in Sydney a couple of months ago. Suitable for solar farms only of course, at around 1200x2400mm thats far too big for a domestic roof, but its interesting to see how far we have advanced.
Prices have also decreased, I remember paying well over $10/watt, wholesale.
We now sell at around 60c/watt.
Inverters too have decreased dramatically, heres the Latronics 1.5kw grid interactive inverter for $3289.00, circa 2004. We now sell 5kw Inverters for half that.
I've been working with solar energy for over 30 years now, and accumulated many items of what is now historical significance, even though it was new at the time. This is making me feel old......
