RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION & PRODUCTION
Recently, EU Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles was published on March 2022. The Strategy implements commitments made under the European Green Deal, the new Circular Economy Action Plan and the Industrial Strategy, and aims to create a greener, more competitive and more modern sector, more resistant to global instabilities. The Strategy proposes actions for the entire lifecycle of textiles products, while supporting the ecosystem in the green and digital transitions. Strategy addresses that, textiles should be designed to make them last longer, easier to repair and recycle, as well as contain recycled content. To tackle greenwashing, the industry should empower consumers and raise awareness about sustainable fashion and use “Digital Product Passports” to share clearer and right information. Digital Product Passports will share the environmental sustainability characteristics of products and aims to make it easier to track products' supply chain journeys, and to make it easier to repair or
recycle.
Since 2018, Orta has been sharing the intel of your denim’s life cycle in each garment with the science-based Life Cycle Assessment methodology through QR codes on product hangtags. With these QR codes, we are also sharing the fibre origin countries of each ORTA fabric. With the new look, we are now sharing the actual impact of each ORTA fabric on 5 key environmental parameters: Global warming potential indicating climate change impact, water use, land use, eutrophication indicating water pollution and abiotic resource depletion indicating non-renewable resource scarcity and LCA performance compared to standard denim explained via daily life examples.
