Did you know the first person to pose the concept of a recruitment agency was Henry Robinson who put forth a letter to the British government in 1653. In this letter he detailed the idea of opening an “Office of Addresses and Encounters” to assist with connecting employers with workers. The idea however was rejected by the government. Following this news Henry decided to open the office himself which was then short lived.

Robinson's establishment of the first recorded recruitment agency was a defining moment in recruitment history, despite its brief existence. Other agencies with similar ideas were not established until the 1800s, making Robinson ahead of his time. Although the concept did not work out at the time, recruitment agencies are now a common practice.
