🔥 FireShield® enters its next chapter

Advanced Composite Structures Australia in with Regina Glass Fibre developed FireShield® - a lightweight, single-ply veil to help protect advanced composite structures against fire without the need to modify the resin or change the manufacturing process.

Following the closure of Regina Glass Fibre, we are pleased to announce that ACS Australia has entered into a new agreement directly with Ampelite Australia Pty Ltd. 🤝

Ampelite has long been the principal customer for FireShield®, incorporating the technology into its highly successful, Australian-made FS Firecheck® fire-resistant roofing and cladding range. To support this next phase, Ampelite has established a dedicated new production line to manufacture FireShield®.

The agreement secures the continued use of FireShield® across Ampelite’s products while creating a platform to pursue new applications, markets and commercialisation opportunities internationally.

With potential applications spanning , , , and , the opportunity for this Australian technology extends well beyond roofing.

ACS Australia looks forward to partnering with Ampelite to expand FireShield® into its next phase of commercial growth.

🚀 Joe Zadnik attended ADSTAR (Australian Defence Science, Technology and Research) 2026 last week as part of The Defence Science Institute's Early Career Researchers (ECR) delegation.
Joe joined Advanced Composite Structures Australia after completing the Victorian Defence Industry Scholarship program in 2022, where he was placed with our team.

ADSTAR provided a fantastic opportunity to with researchers and industry professionals. Joe attended a range of plenary and technical sessions relevant to his work on ultra high temperature materials. He also had the opportunity to present work relevant to in , highlighting the importance of development, particularly materials in the supply chain of motors, leading edges and control surface components. 🚀

Our work with Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) on the ARMTD (Advanced Rocket Motor Technology Demonstrator) program was also showcased at the event. Congratulations also go to Andrew Hart on receiving the 2026 Minister’s Award for Achievement in Defence Science for his leadership within this program. 🏆

👏 We welcome Brendon Hodkinson to the Composite Structures Australia team.

Brendon Hodkinson joins ACS Australia as a Protective Coating Specialist and Spray Painter. He brings hands-on experience in painting, line marking, surface preparation, sanding, priming, and finishing. At ACS Australia, Brendon will support the team with protective coating and spray-painting works, helping ensure surfaces and composite structures are prepared, coated, and finished for , and products.

🎉 Congratulations to Murray Scott , Chairman of Advanced Composite Structures Australia who has received the Lifetime Achievement and Outstanding Contribution Award at the Composites Australia Annual Industry Awards, presented last week during the Composites Australia Conference 2026 in Geelong, Victoria.

Murray’s four-decade career in aerospace and advanced composites has had a lasting impact on Australian engineering and manufacturing capability.

His contributions include 13 years as CEO of the CRC for Advanced Composite Structures (CRC-ACS) and 8 years as Managing Director of ACS Australia, delivering composite technologies adopted in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and other programs. He founded the Australian Composite Structures Society within Engineers Australia, has chaired the EA/RAeS Joint Board for Aerospace Engineering and held senior international leadership roles across major aerospace and composites organisations including as President of The International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences ICAS and ICCM - International Committee on Composite Materials.

This recognition is a fitting tribute to Murray’s technical leadership, industry impact and long-standing commitment to advancing composite structures in Australia and globally.

📣 Paul Falzon, General Manager of Advanced Composite Structures Australia, will be presenting at the Composites Australia Conference to be held from Wednesday 17 to Thursday 18 June 2026 in Geelong.

Paul’s presentation, “Scaling Advanced Composite Manufacturing: Investment, Capability and Capacity,” will highlight ACS Australia’s continued investment in expanded facilities, new equipment, increased production capacity, and workforce development through apprenticeships and internships.

Drawing on our work across , and , the session will outline how ACS Australia is strengthening advanced capability for complex applications.

🎉Advanced Composite Structures Australia is proud to be announced as a recipient of Round 6 of the Victorian Government’s Supply Chain Uplift Program.

The grant will support the purchase of new equipment to expand our operations at our Altona North facility, helping increase our capability and capacity as we continue to grow as an advanced and company supplying products to the Defence industry.

The Victorian Government announced $1.1 million in grants for 17 Victorian businesses, supporting the growth of Victoria’s defence supply chain and creating an estimated 72 high-skilled jobs.

For ACS Australia, this investment will support the creation of new jobs and further strengthen our role in delivering advanced composite technology solutions for and .

Liz joins us with a strong background in chemistry and materials science, having completed her PhD in Chemistry at Monash University. Her industry-based doctoral research focused on the manufacturing of nanoparticles, giving her valuable experience in materials characterisation, processing, and applied research.

Prior to joining ACS Australia, Liz worked in the oil & gas industry, bringing further industrial experience to her new role. Her mix of chemistry expertise, materials knowledge, and industry experience makes Liz a great addition to the team as we continue advancing our work in .
