Here at Fluiconnecto Ryco, we’re proud to support a workplace culture that puts wellbeing first and that includes welcoming our team members’ pets into the office!

Pets in the workplace are known to help reduce stress, boost morale, and encourage collaboration among team members. We’ve certainly seen all of these benefits firsthand at our Derrimut branch.

One of our newest (and furriest) regulars is George, a 9-month-old Spoodle who has quickly become a much-loved part of the team. From brightening our days to sparking smiles and conversations, George has made a big impression on everyone he meets.

It’s just one of the many ways we’re creating a positive, supportive environment for our people.

As part of our second interview in the International Men’s Day 2025 series, we spoke to Jason, who shared his thoughts on this year’s theme, “Celebrating Men and Boys”. To him, it’s about recognising that many of the challenges men face begin early in life and acknowledging our collective responsibility to address them.

He credits his grandfathers and father as his strongest role models, men who immigrated from Italy to Australia with nothing and built fulfilling lives grounded in hard work and family. Reflecting on the challenges men face today, he noted the ongoing struggle for equality, explaining that while expectations of men have evolved, societal systems, such as the court system, have not always kept up, particularly in matters involving children.

He defines success as achieving a healthy balance between work and personal life and earning the respect of those around him. Finally, he shared that a common misconception about men is that masculinity is still defined by physical strength, when in reality, it’s increasingly about emotional openness and the ability to express one’s feelings.

For International Men’s Day 2025 we've created a 3-day series to understand what this day means to our team members.

We spoke with Darrell about this year's theme “Celebrating Men and Boys". He reflected on the importance of pausing to acknowledge the roles men play in their families, workplaces, and communities. To him, it’s about recognising the “quiet strength” of men such as the often-unspoken acts of care, like coaching kids’ sports, mentoring colleagues, or simply being a steady listener and shoulder to lean on. He shared that his father has been his greatest role model, teaching him invaluable lessons and demonstrating sacrifice, lessons he’s come to appreciate even more as he raises his own family.

When discussing challenges men face today, he pointed to emotional pressures to provide, educational struggles where boys may leave school early, mental health stigma, and the expectation to always appear strong. For Darrell, success isn’t defined by status or wealth, but by his family’s happiness and a sense of peace at home. He also believes one of the biggest misconceptions about men is that vulnerability equals weakness, reminding us that it takes real courage to ask for help and to challenge the outdated idea that men shouldn’t express their emotions.

At Fluiconnecto Ryco, we’re reminded of the power of a simple question: “R U OK?”

Mental health and wellbeing matter, both inside and outside of the workplace. Today, and every day, we encourage everyone to check in with colleagues, friends, and loved ones. You don’t need to be an expert, just be there, listen, and show you care.

Let’s keep the conversation going.
