Another day, another bonnet saved from the scrap heap! 🛠️💥

​We just wrapped up fixing the bonnet on this beautiful GQ shorty. Someone previously cut into it for a bonnet-entry snorkel, so we went to work welding and filling in the missing sheet metal to bring back its clean, solid factory lines.

​⚠️ A word of advice on bonnet-entry snorkel gas strut kits:
If your bonnet sheet metal isn't up to scratch or has been cut into, we strongly recommend skipping the gas strut kits. On this build, the combination of the cut metal and the force from the struts actually caused the bonnet to start folding in half. Save yourself the headache and stick with the factory bonnet prop rod!

​To finish off the job properly, we tossed out the owner's makeshift home-made setup and custom-fabricated a clean, high-flow stainless steel intake pipe to keep this GQ breathing right.

We loaded up CHOPYY, our shop GU Patrol, and made the 20-hour trek up from Victoria to hit the strip for Dobinson King of the Strip!

​The goal was simple: bring our full-weight, road-driven 4WD, run it hard all day, and see what the M57N2 / ZF 6-speed combo could really do.

​Here’s how the weekend stacked up:

⏱️ Best Time: 14.75 @ the quarter mile

🏋️ Setup: Full-weight GU Patrol (M57N2 + ZF 6-speed swap)

📈 Power Output: 350hp & 815Nm on a mild tune

⛽ Fuel Economy: Averaged an impressive 11.5L/100km on the drive up

🏁 Result: Non-stop passes all day long with zero dramas

​Driving a heavy rig nearly 2,000 km north, hammering it down the strip all day, and packing up without turning a single spanner proves these M57 engine packages continue to impress us every single time.

Giving you guys a bit of a look at what we've been working on with the 120 Prado before we pack up and head out!

Here’s what’s gone down under the hood and up top:

🔥 BMW 850W PWM Fan Fitted: Massive airflow setup to keep engine temps right where they need to be.
🔥 Custom Fabricated Expansion Tank: Integrated with a custom bracket to keep the fuel filter mounted neat and accessible.
🔥 Custom Fabricated Power Steering Bottle: Built in-house to clean up the engine bay layout.
🔥 Pre-DPF 79 Series Bonnet Scoop Grafted: Seamlessly integrated to retain full functionality for a top-mount intercooler while giving the front end a serious look.

Roy brought his car all the way down from Queensland for a serious heart transplant, and the results speak for themselves! We knocked out a full BMW M57 conversion using an engine and transmission supplied by Roy himself.

While we had it in the shop, we also took care of:

- Fresh timing chain and valve springs.

- A custom 2365 turbo upgrade paired with a Radius Fab airbox.

- A custom fan shroud built to suit the viscous fan, plus a Rampt custom steering box brace.

-: A part-time 4WD kit utilizing premium Aisin hubs.

The Results:
Roy was absolutely stoked when he picked it up, and for good reason—this beast layed down a whopping 326 hp and 680 Nm of torque!

⚠️ A quick bumps in the road: Unfortunately, a brand-new suction control valve that we supplied decided to fail on Roy's drive back home to QLD. While it's highly frustrating when a brand-new part gives up the ghost, it’s one of those rare but not entirely uncommon manufacturing glitches.

Aside from that minor hiccup, this thing is an absolute weapon. Thanks for trusting us with the build, Roy!
