When global conflicts send oil and gas prices soaring, the cheapest energy is the solar power already on your roof.
But something important is happening on 1 May 2026 that many homeowners don’t realise.
The Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program is being dramatically scaled back.
From May 1:
• The rebate per kWh drops by roughly 20%
• Larger batteries receive reduced rebate tiers
• Incentives will continue stepping down every 6 months
For a typical household battery (10–14 kWh), this means $700–$1,000 less in rebate value if installed after May.
But the impact is much bigger for larger systems.
For a 50 kWh battery system, the rebate reduction and new tiered incentives could mean up to $10,000 less in federal rebates if installed after 1 May 2026.
In other words:
Now is the best time to install a battery is before the reduction takes effect.
For homes that already have solar, batteries can:
✔ Store excess solar instead of exporting it cheaply
✔ Reduce evening grid usage
✔ Protect against future electricity price increases
✔ Provide backup capability when configured correctly
At Glow Green, we’re currently helping homeowners secure battery installations before the rebate reduction, with systems starting from $3,999 installed for eligible homes.
If you already have solar and have been thinking about adding a battery, this is the window where the numbers make the most sense.
If you'd like, we can quickly check:
• Whether your current solar system is battery-ready
• The right battery size for your home
• Your expected savings and payback
Feel free to message us — happy to run the numbers. No obligation.
