PROJECT UPDATE FROM THE PROJECT MANAGER
November & December were significantly disrupted by the spate of wet weather the area experienced. Despite that, we managed to push on with works and have now completed all our deep pavement excavations. The upcoming traffic switch will allow us access to complete the works on the Northern side of the road. Which will impact businesses, but we will be doing everything we can to mitigate these impacts and complete the works as quickly as possible.
The works are progressing well and expected to be substantially
completed in March.
Bellwether have fielded many community enquires in relation to both the design and the proposed project works, we are keen to work in with the community to get this project completed with as little impact as possible.
Our office is located at 4 Pine Street, please visit if you have any or
concerns or questions regarding the construction works, we are more than happy to discuss any queries.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

To the Miles Community,

Bellwether recently arranged a letter drop for the residents of Miles advising of a planned traffic shift scheduled to occur in December.

Please note that this traffic shift for 'PHASE 2' has now been postponed until January 2022 due to recent wet weather. It is anticipated that the traffic shift will be implemented the week of 10 January 2022 once the asphalt works have been completed,

One of the key items required to be completed on 'PHASE 1' is the asphalt road surface. Due to the recent rainfall, minor delays have been experienced and the asphalt has been rescheduled to occur in January 2022 following the Christmas break.

Many construction suppliers and contractors are closing for the festive season. No construction works will occur during this time. The project team will be enjoying a well-earned break from 17 December 2021 and recommencing on the 4 January 2022.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for their patience during the delivery of this project and looks forward to completing the project as soon as possible in the new year.

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns during delivery, for further information please call Peter on 0414 859 920 or visit the Project office, 4 Pine Street Miles.

The Bellwether Project Team would like to wish you a safe and happy Festive Season!

CONSTRUCTION STARTS ON MILES CBD STREETSCAPE REVITALISATION

A major revitalisation of the Miles CBD is a step closer, with construction on the $6 million project kicking off this week.

Western Downs Regional Council is delivering the project in partnership with the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

Western Downs Regional Council Mayor Paul McVeigh said the start of construction marked an exciting milestone for the project, which is designed to boost economic growth.

“This project will transform the Miles CBD into a vibrant, welcoming hub of activity which is designed to encourage new investment opportunities and entice more visitors to our beautiful town,” Cr McVeigh said.

“As part of the project, the streetscape will be revitalised to create a village feel which is RV friendly and incorporates feature lighting, colourful landscaping, street tables and stools, outdoor dining opportunities, public art, and improved pedestrian linkages.

“What makes this project special is the way it will celebrate the area‘s rich history, with the community working with us to create a design that pays tribute to Miles and its people, places, and industries.“

Federal Member for Maranoa, David Littleproud said he was pleased to see construction get underway.

“This is great news as I know the community is eager to enjoy the benefits it is set to bring,” Mr Littleproud said.

“This project capitalises on Miles’ great potential and its unique story. It is creating local jobs and when it is finished will invite more visitors, business and investment into town.

“It is upgrades such as this that will help our economic recovery and secure the future of regional Australia.”

Council has contracted Bellwether to construct the project. Construction has commenced, with the first phase of road works to involve survey set-out of site and removal of centre medians starting Tuesday 5th October 2021.

During construction, Murilla Street parking between Pine and Dawson Street will be temporarily impacted to accommodate for construction activities. Alternative parking will be available on Pine and Dawson Streets or on Murilla Street, west of Pine Street.

The project is anticipated to be completed late 2021 / early 2022.

Residents and businesses can keep up to date on the progress of construction by following Bellwether’s Project page – https://www.facebook.com/MilesCBDStreetscape

The project is being delivered in partnership with the Australian Government under its Local Roads Community Infrastructure Program which has contributed $3.2 million to the project.
