Energy Storage Industries - Asia Pacific ESI’s iron flow batteries have a 10 to 14-hour storage capacity and lifecycle of 25 years — something that is not provided by other battery technologies.

We are investing in the manufacture and distribution of low-cost, long-life, baseload iron flow batteries that allow grid-scale energy storage for wholesale electricity generators, energy retailers and commercial and industrial customers. Energy Storage Industries - Asia Pacific (ESI) is a Queensland-based, 100 per cent Australian-owned company that provides reliable and environmentally friendly renewable energy storage solutions that are essential for Australia’s transition to a renewable energy future. We are investing up to $70 million in Maryborough to manufacture and distribute low-cost, long-life iron flow batteries that allow large-scale energy storage for wholesale electricity generators, energy retailers, and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers. We are also investing in the manufacture of small, modular distributed energy storage units that can be installed in low voltage networks and microgrids, and behind the meter installations for C&I customers. Our iron flow batteries are completely sustainable and 100 per cent recyclable, and the environmentally friendly electrolyte means that the product is ideally suited to remote locations such as the National Parks and the Great Barrier Reef. ESI is fully integrated — we manufacture, install, maintain and finance energy storage solutions. Importantly, the technology is backed by leading global re-insurance company Munich Re, which mitigates risk for ESI’s customers. Partnering with Munich RE, we have launched an industry-first insurance coverage for our battery flow technology. This world-first innovative policy means that our long-duration storage solutions are now baked by a full 10-year performance guarantee, regardless of project size or where it's located. ESI provides a significant social and economic boost to the Australian community. Initially, we are investing up to $70 million to build a manufacturing hub in Maryborough. When fully operational in 2026, ESI will have up to 500 highly skilled employees and contractors working at our facilities throughout regional Queensland. ESI is run by a board and executive team that has decades of experience in the energy, manufacturing, technology and finance sectors. Importantly, they have a deep, end-to-end understanding of the energy value chain from technical operation of assets to energy trading.

🔋✨ We’re thrilled to see Stage 2 Construction of the pilot project at Stanwell's Future Energy Innovation and Training Hub (FEITH) kick off this month.

As the first emerging energy technology to be tested at FEITH, our 1 MW / 10 MWh iron flow battery will play a pivotal role in exploring medium-duration energy storage (8–12 hours). This project underscores 's commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions and driving Queensland’s renewable energy transformation.

Through a joint venture between Energy Storage Industries - Asia Pacific and Cleveland Bay Chemical Company, production will leap from 3 million to 43 million litres per annum.

With a total investment of $20 million, supported by a $3 million grant from the Department of State Development and Infrastructure, this expansion will generate up to 50 construction jobs and 20 operational roles, enhancing local manufacturing and the critical minerals supply chain. 👏 Thanks to the Queensland Conservation Council for their support of Energy Storage Industries - Asia Pacific's grid-scale iron flow batteries, which are non-flammable, non-toxic and recyclable. Following the celebration of the start of construction of ESI’s grid-scale iron flow battery manufacturing plant in Maryborough, Queensland Conservation Council's Stephanie Gray spoke with ABC Wide Bay, sharing her enthusiasm for this milestone, hailing it as a significant step forward in clean manufacturing.

As Stephanie explained, “Australia and Queensland can be leaders in clean manufacturing if we jump on the opportunity because we have world-class solar and wind resources, a skilled workforce, and a great location to export to external markets.” She emphasised that the iron flow batteries being produced are both environmentally friendly and long-lasting, “They don’t degrade over their lifetime … they last a really long time and can produce electricity for long durations.”

Stephanie further underscored the importance of projects like ESI’s iron flow battery manufacturing plant, saying, “This is exactly the kind of initiative we need to create jobs of the future and support Queensland’s transition to clean energy.”

📰 Media coverage continues after Deputy Premier Cameron Dick MP, Member for Maryborough Bruce Saunders, Fraser Coast Regional Council Deputy Mayor Paul Truscott and celebrated the start of construction of our grid-scale iron flow battery manufacturing plant in – an Australian first.

As Energy Storage Industries - Asia Pacific Managing Director Stuart Parry told 7NEWS Wide Bay ESI’s manufacturing, installation and maintenance activities are expected to contribute more than $9.2 billion to Queensland’s economy and create 500 jobs over the next 20 years.

“ESI is targeting the delivery of 400 megawatts (MW) of energy storage annually from 2029 – enough to power a new city the size of Toowoomba each year. Importantly, key battery components will be sourced and manufactured throughout regional Queensland, supporting businesses and creating skilled jobs in local communities,” Mr Parry said.

Iron flow batteries can provide electricity for up to 14 hours to power stations, energy retailers and commercial and industrial customers when renewable energy isn’t being generated, such as during the night.

They are non-flammable, non-toxic, fully recyclable and suitable for use in sensitive landscapes such as national parks, the Great Barrier Reef and residential areas.

Electricity is in the air at Maryborough this week, with the start of construction of Australia’s first grid-scale battery manufacturing plant. Energy Storage Industries - Asia Pacific facility will put Queensland at the forefront of energy storage.

By the end of next year we’ll be producing the first of ESI’s powerful and non-flammable iron flow batteries. And when fully operational by mid-2029, ESI will be delivering 400MW of energy storage annually – enough to power a new city the size of Toowoomba each year.

Importantly, key battery components will be sourced and manufactured throughout regional Queensland, supporting businesses and creating skilled jobs in local communities. Thanks to Bundaberg’s IDC Construct and their local subcontractors for getting us off to a great start with construction.

📰 Exciting news today from Maryborough. Thanks to $25 million in support from Queensland Treasury and $40 million from international private investors, Energy Storage Industries - Asia Pacific will manufacture locally made grid-scale batteries in this vibrant regional city by the end of next year.

ESI’s iron flow batteries solve the problem of how to provide renewable energy overnight, providing reliable and affordable energy. And their assembly – at Australia’s first grid-scale battery manufacturing plant – will create skilled jobs in the Fraser Coast region and support local businesses.
