Today, the SEC announced it has purchased the Delburn Wind Farm and construction will commence in early 2026.

OSMI Australia is proud to have worked on the planning and development of the Delburn Wind Farm. We look forward to working with the SEC to deliver this important project for the benefit of the local community, our environment and a sustainable future 🌿⚡️🌬️

We are excited to announce that we will deliver Victoria’s first publicly owned, utility-scale wind generation project with our 100% acquisition of the Delburn Wind Farm in Gippsland.

Located just south of the Latrobe Valley – the historical heart of Victoria’s integrated power system – the project is set to bring major benefits to the region delivering up to 205 MW of capacity to the grid and creating more than 300 local jobs.

With construction to begin in early 2026, the 33-turbine wind farm will generate up to 205-megawatts of renewable energy to the electricity grid, or enough to power more than 130,000 homes, once operational in 2028.

Today is Global Wind Day! A celebration of the natural resource powering Australia. 🌬

Wind currently generates 13.4% of Australia's electricity. It's an important tool in reducing carbon emissions for a sustainable future for us and our children. 🍃

Harnessing wind, creates new jobs and skills, boosts local economies and provides community benefits.

The OSMI Australia office has now closed for Christmas and will re-open on Monday 6 January 2025. 🎅 🤶

Thanks to our local communities, Community Consultative Committee, stakeholders and partners for a productive 2024. We wish you a peaceful and safe Christmas with family and friends. 🎄

We will continue to work with the community to share updates and answer questions ahead of construction commencing on the Delburn Wind Farm in 2025.

OSMI is committed to best practice community engagement and benefit sharing. We are a signatory to the Clean Energy Council’s (CEC) Best Practice Charter with guidelines on what is acceptable and what communities can expect from renewable developers.

By working with locals and our Community Consultative Committee we listen and respond to feedback. Our aim is to deliver real social value through a generous benefits program, job creation and skills development.

We regularly review our performance against the Charter and seek feedback from stakeholders to improve performance. Our approach is to consult early, be transparent and informative.

We are really pleased to see other developers take up some of the innovations OSMI has bought to the community engagement space, and we will continue to observe other's successes to inspire new ideas for own programs.

Ten local groups will share in $15,000 of Delburn Wind Farm Pre-Development Grants for their community-led projects. This will provide a welcome boost for local connections, health and wellbeing and the environment.

The Pre-Development Grants have been awarded to:
• The Boolarra Football Netball Club for a replacement defibrillator for their social rooms
• The Yinnar and District Historical Society and Museum to upgrade lighting in two-buildings
• Mirboo North Pony Club for an arena rake for volunteers to maintain the surface of two arenas
• Gippsland Writers Network to deliver two writing workshops by experienced tutors to support emerging writers
• Friends of the Lyrebird Forrest Walk for a whipper snipper and motor driven pole-saw to maintain Lyrebird Walk and Grand Ridge Rail Trail
• Jeeralang Boolarra Cricket Club for first aid equipment for use by teams and club members
• Mirboo North Market Committee for local musicians to perform at the market for visitors to enjoy
• Yinnar Bowls and Recreational Club for two sets of tenpin bowls for children and adults
• Cricket Latrobe Valley for new uniforms for 18 female players for the 2025-26 cricket season
• Mirboo North United Football Club for a set of mobile senior sized goals 🌿🏇💙🏏

Once construction is underway, the Delburn Wind Farm Community Development Grants will increase to around $150,000 per year ($750 per megawatt installed).

OSMI Australia is delighted to be partnering with the Asia Pacific Reneable Energy Training Centre (APRETC) and Fed Uni to provide scholarships to develop and skill-up Gippsland’s new energy workforce.

APRETC's expansion into Gippsland is a welcome addition as employment opportunities in wind power and renewable energy continue to grow. Construction of the Delburn Wind Farm will commence in 2025, bringing 200 new jobs. 🌿🩵

We're powering up Gippsland's renewable energy future!

We’re expanding our Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre (APRETC) to Eastern Victoria, right in the heart of Gippsland. With support from industry leaders including Corio Generation, OSMI Australia, Iberdrola Renewables Australia, and Origin x RES, this more than $2.6 million investment will create 300 scholarships, boost research, and provide specialised training right here in Gippsland.

APRETC will become a central hub for education, research, and innovation in renewable energy, supporting technologies like wind, solar, hydrogen, and more.
