A concerning number of failures of Y2 class safety capacitors. Y2 class capacitors are designed to be fail safe, ie open circuit during a failure.. and used in the circuit where its failure can pose an electric shock hazard in certain scenarios. These have not failed in that mode, and ruptured. Fortunately this equipment is double insulated and is not a concern in this particular application.. but they are certified for, and can be used in such applications. The manufacturer will be notified and samples sent for analysis.
