We’re helping customers take practical steps towards lower-emission operations with Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO).

HVO is one way customers can turn their emissions reduction ambitions into action today, with use across Energy Power Systems Australia service and selected generator applications as part of a broader power solution.

HVO is a renewable diesel that can be used as a direct replacement for conventional diesel in approved Cat® engines, without equipment modification — helping reduce lifecycle CO₂ emissions while maintaining the performance and reliability critical operations depend on.

We’re also seeing more customers include HVO in their technical specifications, reflecting the growing role alternative fuels can play in their emissions reduction journey.

As every organisation’s energy transition looks different, HVO offers a practical near-term option while longer-term sustainability strategies continue to evolve.

Our Marine Excellence Centre recently welcomed MEGT (Australia) Ltd TAFE student Thomas Ford for a five-week placement through the Defence Industry Pathways Program - Western Australia.

Thomas gained hands-on experience across the engineering process — from electrical schematics and AutoCAD to harness design and seeing his work come to life in the workshop.

Working alongside David Craig, Marine Aftersales Technical Support, Thomas also gained insight into what happens beyond project delivery, learning how ongoing technical support, parts, logistics and customer engagement help keep marine assets performing throughout their lifecycle.

We’re proud to support opportunities that give emerging leaders meaningful industry experience and exposure to the diverse careers supporting Australia’s marine and defence sectors.

We wish Thomas every success as he continues his studies and career journey.

👋 The people behind the power.

Meet Fred Bkamdin, Head of Business Development and Sales - Marine Segment, based in Perth, and one of the people behind the power at Energy Power Systems Australia (EPSA).

For more than 16 years, Fred has helped grow EPSA’s Marine business, working alongside customers, shipbuilders, Caterpillar and industry partners across Australia’s defence, government, commercial and leisure marine sectors.

Behind every vessel and propulsion solution can be years of planning, technical expertise and collaboration. "There’s a tremendous amount of teamwork behind every solution we deliver."

For Fred, some of the most rewarding moments have come from seeing complex projects take shape — from early opportunities through to commissioning and sea trials — and watching the Marine team continue to grow along the way.

Ask what keeps him coming back, and his answer is simple: "Without question, it’s the people."
It’s those relationships, combined with the opportunity to solve complex customer challenges and contribute to Australia’s sovereign defence capability and emerging energy technologies, that continue to drive Fred.
At EPSA, delivering complex solutions takes more than technical expertise. It takes people who listen, collaborate and find a way forward.

This is EPSA Life.

Powering innovation in remote Australia ⚡

We’re proud to be featured in the latest edition of APAC Outlook Magazine, sharing the story of our collaboration with Wild Desert to deliver an Australian-first hybrid drilling rig.

Rig 34 combines Cat® battery energy storage technology with conventional generation, creating a smarter, more efficient and lower-emission power solution built for the demanding conditions of remote oil and gas operations.

From concept design through to commissioning, EPSA and Wild Desert worked closely together to develop a solution that helps reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions and minimise unnecessary engine runtime, while delivering the reliable power needed in the field.

It’s a great example of Australian innovation in action — combining technology, engineering expertise and strong customer collaboration to solve real operational challenges.

📖 Read the full story in APAC Outlook Magazine, pages 132–133.

👏 Congratulations to the Wild Desert and EPSA teams involved in bringing Rig 34 to life.
