📣 MDN is recruiting for semester 2!! 📣

Monash DeepNeuron is opening up roles across Technical 🤖, Marketing 🎨, Law & Ethics ⚖️, Education 📚, and Infrastructure ⚙️ — and we want you on the team!

Whether you're into building AI models, designing campaigns, shooting media, exploring the ethics behind emerging tech, running workshops, or keeping our systems running, there's a branch for you.

Open roles include:

Technical: work on AI and OC projects 🤖

Law & Ethics: deliver workshops on the intersection of law, ethics and AI through our Awareness and Outreach team ⚖️

Education: design and deliver AI and OC workshops to schools around Melbourne 👩‍🏫

Marketing: design, film and create content across Design Officer and Media Officer roles 🎨🎥

Infrastructure: keep MDN running through Admin Ops, Events Ops, WebDev and DevOps 🗂️⚙️

Industry: Build and strengthen MDN's industry partnerships through outreach, sponsorships and networking initiatives 🤝

Women in Trading Evening in Melbourne | 4 August

After a fantastic evening in Sydney earlier this year, Women in Trading is coming to Melbourne in August. Our annual evening brings together female and gender-diverse STEM students with leading trading firms IMC, Jane Street, Optiver, Susquehanna and VivCourt.

The event is designed for first and second-year university students interested in trading, technology and quantitative research careers, and who want a clearer understanding of:
• What different roles involve day to day
• Early career pathways into the industry
• Skills and mindsets of high performers
• Common misconceptions about trading

🚨 What is Sepsis Al? 🚨

Sepsis can look just like the flu... until it isn’t. It progresses fast, and it’s even harder to catch in kids, whose symptoms don’t follow the adult playbook. One clue doctors don’t currently have a good way to use? Caregiver concern - that gut feeling parents get when they know something’s seriously wrong.

That’s the gap MyNeuron Sepsis Al is tackling 💡 Led by Cass Whitehead and Iris Nguyen, this project is building an Al model that combines standard hospital data with caregiver concerns (turned into usable data via transformer-based language models) to help clinicians flag high-risk paediatric patients earlier in triage.

The goal: faster decisions, earlier intervention, better outcomes 🩺

Over 6 weeks, we went from C++ fundamentals all the way to accelerated computing, and we couldn't be prouder of everything this series became. 🚀

A massive thank you to our incredible lead lecturer Erol Cemiloglu for bringing the knowledge, the energy, and the dedication to make this series truly special! Huge shoutout to all our amazing TAs who showed up week after week to support, debug, and guide everyone through the chaos. 💪

And to our brilliant special guests from NCI, NVIDIA, and Pawsey - thank you for sharing your world-class expertise and giving us a real glimpse into the frontier of high performance and accelerated computing. 🌏🔥
