An independent look at Mt Chalmers just mapped out what's landing next: an updated resource, then the DFS, both due within six months.

That timeline follows the $15m QIC brought in back in April, funding that GBA Capital says materially reduces near-term financing risk while that work gets done.

138 metres down at Mt Chalmers, it's copper. 56 metres down, in a different hole, it's gold, silver and zinc.

Same hillside, two sides of the one system: a copper-gold core running deep, giving way to a gold-silver-zinc cap much closer to the surface. Both zones are still open, and 10 more holes are already in the lab.

• 32m at 1.99% Cu, 0.39g/t Au and 2.6g/t Ag from 138m, including 7m at 4.18% Cu and a peak 1m at 11.3% Cu

• 25m at 2.08g/t Au, 92g/t Ag and 2.56% Zn from 56m, including a peak 1m at 12.6g/t Au and 260g/t Ag, the highest gold and silver grades from the program to date

It started with a whiteboard marker, 5 years ago.

That's how Executive Chairman Andrew Sparke describes the beginning of QMines, on stage at Diggers & Dealers in Kalgoorlie.

The video of that presentation is now on YouTube. It covers the Mt Chalmers project, the plant planned for Central Queensland, and why QMines is one of the few ASX copper developers still standing while several peers have been taken over in recent months.

Copper hit a record price the same morning QMines lodged its ninth resource upgrade in five years, and three rigs are turning on site right now.

We had Dale Last MP out at Mt Chalmers last week, with a few local members and department staff joining him.

Mt Chalmers hasn't turned a wheel since 1982. These days it's pulling state ministers out for a look.

Somewhere between "we need to drill under a flooded pit" and "let's put the rig on a boat," someone had to say yes.

That's what's happening on the water at Mt Chalmers: Andrew Sparke, Richard Wittig and Tom Bartschi, out there with our drilling contractor.

A purpose-built platform carrying a diamond drill rig, over ground, no land-based rig could ever reach. Rods stacked on deck, and the historic pit walls behind.

The first modern drilling the ground has ever seen.

Mining.com.au has covered the drill rig floating on the flooded Mt Chalmers pit.

The pit filled with water decades ago, which put everything underneath it beyond the reach of a normal rig. A purpose-built platform now carries a diamond rig out onto the water, and core is coming up from ground that has never been properly tested.

Mt Chalmers produced 1.2Mt at 2% copper and 3.6g/t gold between 1898 and 1982. This drilling is aimed at growing the resource beneath it.

Dividends aren't something you hear a junior explorer talk about often.

Andrew Sparke did, on stage at the Noosa Mining Investor Conference: he told the room he wants QMines paying dividends to shareholders one day. That's our ambition, not a promise.

What's actually funded and underway right now: Mt Chalmers' Definitive Feasibility Study, fully covered by QIC's $15M commitment, with drilling turning on the ground.

Yesterday was our debut presentation at Diggers and Dealers in Kalgoorlie.

Here's the deck Andrew took to that stage.

Executive Chairman Andrew Sparke presented on Wednesday afternoon, one of around 66 companies across the three days. The plan he set out: one central processing plant in Central Queensland, fed by nine regional deposits, targeting 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of copper equivalent a year for more than ten years.

Mt Chalmers restarts first. Everything else follows the same path through the same plant.
