Measuring and cutting a new leather apron, because being a blacksmith with a relatively new ostomy bag and working next to a forge isn't exactly ideal.

Follow along to see how I stop my bag from melting 🫠

A few snippets of us making sausages from our last cow. 🐄

Nothing fancy, just a lot of meat, a lot of mixing, and a whole lot of sausages.

I don't know about anyone else, but we're still lighting the heater most nights in the Adelaide Hills.

If anyone is in need, we've got two hand-forged fire pokers still available.

$125 each. Send us a message if you'd like to purchase one.

Pick up just out of Lobethal.

We'd planned on making some new sheep hangers, so Sam decided to knock up a couple at 7am before we head out to the paddock.

Welcome to Getting Hammered Ironworks!

We're Sam and Winona, and what started as a hobby has slowly turned into a small family business.

Sam has Crohn's disease and, after a pretty rough year of hospital stays and surgeries, working a regular job isn't really an option for him. So we've decided to build something of our own around our family and work when we can.

We live in the Adelaide Hills with our two daughters, along with cows, sheep, goats, chickens and dogs. Between the farm, the workshop and the kids, there's usually plenty going on!

You'll see a bit of everything around here — blacksmithing, forging, leatherwork, soap making, workshop projects and general life on the farm.

We're figuring things out as we go, and having a good time while we're doing it. We'd love for you to follow along.

Thanks for being here and supporting our little family business. ⚒️

We've been busy building a new forge. 🔥

Our original Mr Volcano forge is perfect for the smaller projects, but it just isn't big enough for some of the larger things we want to make. We kept finding ourselves thinking about how we could adapt projects to fit the smaller forge, so in the end, building a new one seemed like the easiest option.

It's finally up and running, and now we just need to find the time to put it to work.

🔥 Hand-Forged Wall Torches 🔥

Hand-forged steel wall torches with a removable turned timber handle. The torch head features a Kevlar wick wrapped in copper, designed to be soaked in fire fluid and lit for outdoor use.

The steel is beeswaxed while hot to protect the metal, and the timber handle is also hand turned and sealed with beeswax.

The timber torch lifts out of a wall-mounted bracket, which screws securely to an external wall.
