Action all round at Bob and Jenny’s house this week, both inside and out weather dependent!πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚
With the start of the weeks inclement weather thrust upon us (Mother Natures welcome to winter ceremony) we had a multitude of trades looking to find inside work, which ended up working out well with each trade following the other!πŸ€”πŸ‘
The guys from CKK had gotten a head start late the week prior, so just finishing installing the cupboard bases didn’t take long ahead of continuing on, and finishing all the cupboards in totality, whilst Langas and Tex could then follow up with the carpentry, cutting in all the skirtings to the bases and the last of the architraves, so the painters could start their timber preparation works, making for a somewhat cozy, almost cuddly worksite for the boys!?πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

As the week dried out, we were able to get cracking finishing the verandah gutters, ready to get Lambert from MtG Excavations to dig a few trenches, help prepare rainwater tank bases and then install the four rainwater tanks to the property!πŸ‘πŸ‘

With that part of the job done, Ty, Tom and Elliot were working toward getting all the stormwater laid ready to then connect up to the tanks, ahead of the next drenching we are potentially going to receive late next week!😬😬

Safwat and Salvana’s house slab is now sitting and waiting for Thursday next week to roll around after Tom and Elliot did the rebate boxing and finished the final preparations to the slab, as that is the day, by the weather forecast, that we should be able to pour and finish the slab prior to the deluge being predicted for next Friday and the weekend!πŸ€”πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
But the bureau of meteorology, could also change their position on this, stuff it up royally (yet still maintain their employment just like politicians doπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ) and we have to cancel the pour!!😬😬 But for now, fingers crossed!🀞🀞🀞

We had Lambert also dig out the driveway and deliver some limestone base materials to build up the driveway, in preparation for the winter onset, allowing easy bog free access to the site, as the site is already wet and slippery, making access for a concrete pump and concrete trucks in the immediate future, potentially a major problem without these preventative measures!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ
Tuesday will see it all levelled topped and rolled, ready for Thursdays action!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

After having the electrical, gas and Telstra services laid in the trench at Ben and Sushila’s slab, we had James from Borderline Kerbing backfill the trench, then level and trim around the slab ready for the guys from K and B Aston Newman Timbers to deliver the frames and accessories to site!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Crackers, Langas and Tex spent Friday standing the frames ready to brace and fix down Tuesday next week, while that clears some space for the remaining timber and trusses to be delivered to site, so the fellas can keep cracking on!πŸ‘πŸ™Œ

29/05/2026

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks getting a slab poured and finished each week, but by the weather forecast, we might not get three in a row!!😬😬

Early last week, we were able to get Ben and Sushila’s slab poured, once again trying to line all the ducks up, from weather, to concrete pump, to concrete supply and also helping hands to get the concrete down!πŸ«£πŸ˜‚πŸ‘
But when it all comes together, it does work out well!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

This week, after having Connor and Abi’s slab prepared for some weeks, but just waiting on the go ahead to pour, we got the nod, so the booking process began!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Everything was booked a couple of weeks ago for Monday this week to pour, which at the time of booking, the weather forecast looked promising!🫣🫣
But as the week wore on, and over the weekend, and by the time 3.30am Monday morning rolled around, the forecast had changed fairly dramatically!😬😬
The forecast of a fine morning, then the rain closing in after lunch, does not help in trying to finish concrete!πŸ˜–πŸ˜–
So, in trusting the forecasters would be on the money, the call was made to reluctantly cancel all the other ducks that were lined up, except the weather!!πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

In cancelling the pour, we then have to go back to the drawing board and begin the process again trying to find another day where all the stars align and the weathers fine, which in this slabs case, will be the third try!πŸ€”πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

But fortunately for us, Moods and Lachy who were going to be helping us pour said slab, had the pumped booked for Tuesday! And as their job required absolutely no rain, they had to cancel the pump, which in turn allowed us to slip in and grab it on a days notice, instead of being in line for another fortnight!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Once again the forecast wasn’t great, but was the reverse of Monday where the rain was around in the morning (and that to proved to be correct as we got absolutely drenched pouring) but started to clear mid to late morning, which is when we are starting the finishing process!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Fortunately for us, unlike politicians that change their β€œposition”, the weather and forecasters didn’t, and their predictions proved correct and we were done and dusted by 3.30pm!πŸ™ŒπŸ™πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ

We have also been working on Safwat and Salvana’s house after having the sand pad completed, we set out the job, laid the drain and underfloor plumbing, boxed up the slab, levelled and dug footings ahead of laying the mesh and plastic!!πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ

We needed to get the sand pad covered, as next week, being the first week of winter, and it looks to be coming with vengeance, potentially stuffs up everything we have prepared!😳😳

But by 3.30 on a Friday afternoon, to have it covered just as it started to rain, certainly was satisfying and made the beers taste just that little bit better!🍻🍻

Tim and Belinda’s house is very close to handover, with the final fit offs happening, cleanups occurring, finishing off the outside jobs including the surface irrigation being installed ready for the bark to be spread over the areas, leaving just the finishing touches to happen!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Sharon and Maya’s house moved along in leaps and bounds this week, going from a virtual timber skeleton to looking like a house now!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚

After the guys from Steeline delivered our roofing materials Monday, and with Tuesday and Wednesday being cracking weather, we were able to get the gutters on and the roof done, in time for the windows from Dowell to land on site Thursday!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
Wednesday also saw Rodney arrive on site with a truckload of bricks for delivery, ahead of the bricklayers to begin in a few weeks hopefully!?πŸ€”πŸ€žπŸ˜‚
Whilst finishing the roof Wednesday, we also were able to wrap the external walls to close in the house somewhat, but Crackers, Langas and Tex finished the job Friday installing the windows, completing this week’s house transformation!πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ

How to do The Block, except with no drama, misleading editing or Keith and Dan!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Tim and Belinda’s house has been a hive of activity this week, getting everything finished inside ahead of the floor coverings beginning, albeit not entirely smooth sailing with some minor tweaking required to get the feature veneer stone to coincide with how the advertised product was to look, completed!πŸ€”πŸ˜¬

But after a little bit of divine intervention by Bec at Buildpro, and a very fair and reasonable rep along with the manufacturer, accommodating what we required to achieve the desired result, Taylor was able to remove the grey pieces and replace them with all white stone, and the centrepiece of the family room is exactly how Tim and Belinda wanted, and looking a million bucks!!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Along with the painters also finishing up inside, our window cleaner extraordinaire Steve, cleaned the inside prior to going outside to complete the job,
all ahead of Mitch for Choices Flooring Somerfields arriving to site, to begin laying the vinyl planks and carpet!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Jas from J and M Door Services also made a brief appearance on site, to install the panel lift door!
And when I say brief, I mean brief!!😳😳
It’s like he’s installed a couple of these things previously!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Outside Ty, Tom and Elliott also had a bit going on, with backfilling around the rainwater tanks happening with a hand from Brayden, and starting the surface irrigation for the wastewater treatment plant installation!πŸ‘πŸ‘

We also continued the preparations at Ben and Sushila’s house slab, laying the plastic and mesh in absolutely superb, calm weather!πŸ™ŒπŸ˜
Hopefully Thursday next week provides a similar weather pattern to have a hassle free slab pour!πŸ™πŸ™

Crackers, Langas and Tex have gotten a start on Bob and Jenny’s verandah timber framework, of which there is a fair whack of to do, as it wraps pretty much around the whole house except the alfresco and garage!!😳😳

Neal needed a hand this week on an inside concreting job, laying the floor to a closed in pergola, which always provides access problems!😬😬 But nothing taking out the the aluminium sliding door and its fixed panel didn’t solve, making life easier for Tom and Elliott to navigate the barrows of concrete into place!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Zane and Jas have started the gyprocking at JC and Niyo’s house, after having to deliver the materials to site themselves!πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
Looking forward to the gyprock discounts for supply only, cos apparently the suppliers employees can’t carry or unload the gyprock on site nowadays!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜–πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

08/05/2026

Within a couple of days of receiving Ben and Sushila’s council approval, we had their slab pegged out ready for Chris and Brayden from MtG Excavations in to prepare the sand pad, ahead of us setting the profiles out, then Brayden back again to dig the drain ready for Ty, Tom and Elliott to be laying the drain and underfloor plumbing!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Once the plumbing was laid, tested and drawn up, Brayden then backfilled the trenches, trimmed the slab ready for Tom and Elliott to box up the slab, and begin levelling the sand and digging the footings!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Next step after finishing the levelling and digging next week, will be the installation of the plastic, mesh and rebate boxing after K and B Mitre 10 deliver the mesh house lot Monday morning, to have it ready to find one of those, becoming elusive, good days to be pouring a concrete slab!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

After Crackers, Langas and Tex finished the Scyon Lineaboard cladding to the front of Tim and Belinda’s house, and the fellas from Mick Ryan Painting give it all a lick of paint, we were able to complete the downpipes and stormwater prior to finishing the preparations for being able to pour and finish the last of the concrete paths and driveway pad!πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ

While inside, we started to tackle the feature fireplace installation which looks pretty easy, but is quite complex to be able to achieve the necessary legalities.
Due to the timber framing and size restrictions of the chimney walls, Crackers had to do some rejigging of the frames to fit what is a bloody big heater, and then the slow combustion heater has to be installed in a zero clearance metal box to protect the timber against heat, therefore potential fire combustion risks.
The heater base has to be of a non combustible material, so getting Lachy in from Brody’s Bricks to build in a limestone base was the first step, as Tim and Belinda wanted the heater on a raised hearth!
Next was Taylor to cement wash the stone, and then lay the veneer stone to the hearth!
After that was complete and glue had dried, we then needed 4 people to lift the heater onto the hearth and into the opening, which allowed us to then install the flue and pe*****te to roof to go to atmosphere!
After Michael then completed the power supply and isolation point, it was over to Zane to install the 9mm villaboard which is quite heavy duty, but is necessary to be able to carry the load created by the attachment of the random veneer stone, of which Taylor has got a start on!πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘Œ
Once again, the painters too were doing their bit inside, working around Taylor and his masterpiece, while the guys from Vivid glass installed the shower cubicle and panel to the bathrooms!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Sharon and Maya’s frames and trusses are now complete with the roof and gutter order done, and will be delivered Monday, which will work out well as Tuesday and Wednesday are looking like good days for roofing!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Another council approval came through last week too, so pe***ng out Safwat and Salvana’s house last Saturday seemed like a good idea to have it ready for the Earthworks to begin when Chris and Brayden from MtG Excavations had the opportunity to get in and remove the grass ahead of setting up the sand pad, ready to move this one ahead too!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

25/04/2026

Another cracking week weather wise, therefore making our life a hellava lot easier with the outdoor jobs we have to get done, like roofing Stephen and Sophie’s house!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ
We pretty much have the roof covered, bar a few sheets to finish off, before fitting the barge and ridge caps early next week!πŸ‘πŸ‘
Throw in Ty and Elliott nearly getting all the walls wrapped and we are well on the way to get all the first fixings happening!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

We would have had all the roofing and wrapping completed within the week if we didn’t lose a couple of days finding a leak, then replacing the old galv pipes of the leaking mains water line at Motel Mount Gambier presented!😬😬

Tom spent the best part of Monday pot holing to find what, where and how the mains were placed to figure out where the leak was coming from initially, as where it firstly revealed itself was about 20-30 metres from where the actual leak was occurring!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Long story short, part of the old defunct galv mains that had been bypassed previously with a new poly line, was where the adapter had started leaking. This was pushing water through the old galv pipe to the other open end where it had been cut off previously, showing up as the old line now having a slow flow through it!πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ
Replace the entire galv line with new poly, and problem solved!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Crackers, Langas and Tex have been busy at Sharon and Maya’s house getting a start on standing the frames and trusses!
Next week will have the carpentry sorted, ready for another roof to be going on!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

The fellas from Mick Ryan Painting have just about knocked over the external painting at Tim and Belinda’s house, with the inside starting in a weeks time after we finished getting the woodfire installed into the fire place framing etc, and knock over the rest of the tiling then cornicing, and also get the water running inside the house!πŸ‘πŸ‘

We also had the fellas start the painting at Bob and Jenny’s house, sealing up the rendering while the walls are dry, while inside Langas locked the house up and Taylor, Will and Matt started laying the floor tiles after completing the waterproofing!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

18/04/2026

Tim and Belinda’s house is coming together nicely with Crackers, Langas and Tex all but finished with the second fix carpentry inside, while outside they finished the last of the Lineaboard and soffiting ahead of the guys from Mick Ryan Painting arriving and starting on the preparations and painting of the house externally!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Taylor, Will and Matt are almost done with the wall and floor tiling internally, with just some bits and pieces to tidy up and a bit of grouting to complete, then move onto the stack of veneer stone which will be fixed to the walls of the feature slow combustion heater walls, as well as the feature half columns to the portico at the entrance of the home!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Ty, Tom and Elliott have also started the plumbing second fix, installing the newer style and colour fixtures that have been released on the market, which will be a real feature of the finished product!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Melinda and Ray’s bathroom renovation has moved along relatively well after Tom and Elliott did all the demo work, then prepared the floor to be concreted after they’d altered the underfloor plumbing. With the floor ready to pour, there was only one way to get the concrete from Richards SE Handymix truck to the bathroom, and that was by bucket!πŸ˜–πŸ˜–πŸ™„πŸ™„
Fortunately for Tom who probably wanted a hand, and less fortunate for Ty as he was just back from his last block of trade school, he got to substitute in for Elliott on bucket duty, while Elliott had an extended Easter!πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
From there, Crackers fixed the rotted timbers in the wall from previous leaks, Tom did the first fix plumbing and a heap of trimming we will be needing to mount fixtures etc, Michael doing some electrical alterations, all ahead of Zane installing the Villaboard ready for the vinyl installation.πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

And then there was a slight hiccup with Mitch, (the vinyl floor and wall layer) doing himself no favours slipping on a polished concrete floor and spraining both ankles!πŸ˜¬πŸ˜¬πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
But after a couple of days laying low and resting the bruised ankles, and possibly ego, he battled on and got the job done!πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ
Monday morning sees the guys from CKK heading to site at 7 to install the new vanity!πŸ‘πŸ‘

After getting Brayden from MtG Excavations on site at Sharon and Maya’s block to backfill the electrical trench they had dug previously for the electrical mains to be laid, we also cleaned up around the slab to make it smoother, therefore hopefully making life easier, for all trades to transverse the site without doing ankles!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
No sooner we’d cleaned up the site, we had the truck from K and B Aston Newman Timbers arrive on site to deliver the frames and trusses for the job, with the frames already stood, just no pictures yet!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

The whole of next week is looking like a cracking week to be roofing with bu**er all wind and rain, which works out pretty damn well since we’ve fitted the gutters at Stephen and Sophie’s house and are ready to fit the iron that the team from Steeline have delivered to site for us!😁😁

In our spare time we didn’t have in the last week or so, we’ve managed to help Neal out a couple of times on his job, getting some concrete down and finished.πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Good thing he’s a good bloke I guess!πŸ€”πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

Short couple of weeks now doesn’t mean things go slow, it just means you squeeze more into the four days instead, because that makes complete sense!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Therefore getting Tom and Elliot started on Melinda’s bathroom Reno just had to be done, but naturally when you’re on a timeline, Murphy’s law says that if something can go wrong, it will!πŸ™„πŸ™„

Practically new Demo saws do have issues apparently!😬😬

With that delay solved, it just put us back a day essentially but there is always next week to catch up again, now the old floor is gone, new underfloors completed and ready to prep and pour the new floor!πŸ‘πŸ‘
Always interesting how you find plumbing from the past done, never seen a floor trap riser with another floor trap riser inside it before!!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Bob and Jenny’s house is moving along well with Rads and Brett finishing the external rendercoat to the walls, while inside Zane and Jas are well on the way insulating and gyprocking the walls!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
Two pallets of gyprock inside on the walls, and now the next two ready outside on the pallets again!

Tim and Belinda’s house continues its progress with Crackers, Langas and Tex starting the framing and preparations for the Scyon Lineaboard Cladding installation.πŸ‘πŸ‘

With the framing done along with the bulkheads to the soffit etc, Zane could get in and install the ceilings ready for the cladding to run up into them!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Over at Stephen and Sophie’s house, the fellas from Dowell Windows had an early morning drop off of the window house lot before dawn, ready for Crackers, Langas and Tex to get them up off the ground and fitted!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
Next week sees Steeline delivering the roofing and gutter materials ready to get a lid on, weather dependant!🀞🀞

Crackers, Langas and Tex have all but finished the frames and trusses at Stephen and Sophie’s house, with just some plumbing up and bracing etc of the internal walls etc to be done!πŸ‘πŸ‘

The roof and gutter materials list is in the hands of the team at Steeline for production, so we should see that land to site next week at some point!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

We did get a head start for the gutter installation though, by putting up some heights on the fascia’s and installing the gutter brackets ready to hit the ground running once they are on site!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ

Rads and Brett have finished the rendering to Bob and Jenny’s house, then got a start on the polymer modified rendercoat application, to finish the job ready for the solar guard exterior paint coats to be done later on down the track!πŸ‘πŸ‘Œ

Now the shed slab has gone down, we had the electrical trench opened up, to allow for Michael to run the submains for the shed power, but we also had the guys from Phase Electrical to site, to run the cabling required for the solar system that will be installed on the shed later, once it’s erected!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

More action at Tim and Belinda’s house with some more concrete laid, leaving only the front on the house still to do, once the Scyon Linea Cladding is installed next week which will allow us to finish the roof flashings and guttering against it, which in turn allows us to finish the downpipes and stormwater prior to being able to pour the concrete!πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

We also had Chris on his backhoe to site to place the second rainwater tank into place, and whilst there, load up the spoil from the wastewater tank installation to tidy up the site a bit more!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
Tom and Elliot then were able to connect the stormwater to the tanks just in time to start collecting the rainfall we had late this week!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Inside, the guys from Platinum Products were on site to install the stone bench tops for CKK, which have really set off the cupboards beautifully!πŸ‘ŒπŸ™Œ
Now for Taylor, Will and Matt to complete the tiling and grouting ready for the plumbing 2nd fix to progress!πŸ‘πŸ‘

We solved a slight problem for the RSL to their hot water service located up on the roof, after the inlet copper line sprung a leak!😬😬
Perfect job for an early Sunday morning, when no one is around or needs water, once we turn off the supply to fix the problem!πŸ‘ŒπŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚

It’s been a busy week of concreting at a couple of different jobs.πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
After somewhat of a pause in proceedings due to ducks not staying a line in the financial stakes for Sharon and Maya’s pad, we got the thumbs up to continue progress late last week, allowing us to set up a day this week, working in with Justin at Quickmix Concrete, for the supply of the concrete required!πŸ‘πŸ‘

With the weather being perfect, and not being a huge amount of concrete, we did it old school with the boys getting some practice barrowing a slab!πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚
Reckon they’re pretty happy it was only 14 cubic metres, and not 34m3, or more, like we used to do by barrow, before concrete pumps became a thing!πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

Continuing the concrete theme for the week, we also spent several days at Tim and Belinda’s house, getting some concrete paths and an alfresco/firepit area down!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Apparently there may have been a few early nights had during the week by the Ty,Tom and Elliot!πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ˜΄πŸ˜΄

We also had the rainwater tanks arriving from Clark tanks during the week, so we called on the guys from MtG Excavations to come and dig out the corner where the two tanks were going to be tucked away!πŸ‘πŸ‘

Due to the location being the higher point on the block, we’ve had to dig out a substantial amount of earth to allow the tanks to be installed lower than the lowest of gutters to give a decent head of pressure to allow the wet downpipes to push into the rainwater tanks, rather than back up and overflow from the gutters, due to water finding its own level!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Rads and Brett have got a start at Bob and Jenny’s house getting cracking with the rendering!πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘
The way these fellas get going there won’t be much left to do by the end of next week, bar the rendercote!πŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ
Now that the shed slab was also poured this week, we will get the wiring in the ground for both the supply of power to the shed, but also the electrical for the solar that is going to be installed on the shed!πŸ‘πŸ‘
Inside, Zane will get a start on insulating and start hanging some gyprock too!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Crackers, Langas and Tex are almost done at Stephen and Sophie’s house with the carpentry, getting most of the fascias on after finishing the truss er****on ahead of installing the purlins this coming week, ready for us to fit the lid!πŸ™ŒπŸ‘
