Made a start on a little table top. Client supplied the frame and wanted a round top. I had free rein over what it looked like. So figured I would give the herringbone design a go. Wood is eucalyptus grandis that’s been ebonized.
Still have the clear coat to do and a textured metal ring for the edge.

Installed the posts yesterday. Had a little helper when cutting the bricks to fit around them.

Over the last couple weeks I’ve been spending a little bit of time here and there making a knife block for the kitchen knife I made a little while back, also needed somewhere for the steak knives and scissors to go.
It’s made of an old redgum fence post with some contrasting wood spacers. All finished with some satin clear varnish. Added some non slip matting to the bottom to protect the bench top.

Update on the kitchen knife I started 12 months ago. It is now finished. It’s a Japanese style called a “kiritsuke” that only has 1 bevel unlike standard kitchen knives that have 2 (one on each side).
Blade is made from a car leaf spring, handle is redgum with brass and stainless accents.
