TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT | Welcome Kobi

Please join us in welcoming Kobi to the Mig-Co Engineering team.

Fresh out of school and ready to start his career in the trades, Kobi was looking for an opportunity to learn. While experience can be taught, attitude can't, and Kobi's enthusiasm, willingness to learn and genuine interest in the industry made a great first impression.

He's joined us on a trial in a Mechanical Fitter role, and if it's the right fit for both Kobi and the team, he'll officially begin his Mechanical Fitter Apprenticeship.

At Mig-Co Engineering, we're proud to invest in the next generation of skilled tradespeople. Creating opportunities for young people to build rewarding careers is an important part of strengthening our industry and our team.

Over the coming months, Kobi will work alongside our experienced tradespeople, gaining hands-on experience across a variety of engineering and maintenance projects while developing the skills that will set him up for the future.

Welcome aboard, Kobi. We're excited to have you with us and look forward to seeing where this journey takes you.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT | Stacker Reclaimer Repairs

Supporting our engineering partners when it matters most.
This stacker reclaimer repair project saw our team called in to assist with overflow work, delivering critical repairs to keep the project moving.

The scope included ID welding and precision machining of the pivot pin bores and pivot bearing bore. Following a detailed site inspection, site-specific inductions, and a comprehensive scope of works briefing, work commenced.

With long days on site, working through until dark before returning at 6:00 am the next morning, our team remained focused on delivering the repairs to specification while staying on call throughout the project.

The work was completed in stages, with the west side repaired and reassembled before the east side was stripped down and repaired. This approach ensured the project progressed safely, efficiently, and to the required standard.

Projects like this highlight the strength of our experienced team and our ability to respond quickly when customers need dependable engineering support.

Whether it's planned maintenance, emergency repairs, line boring, welding, or precision machining, Mig-Co Engineering has the capability to deliver.

APPRENTICE SPOTLIGHT | Precision in the Making

When precision matters, the right person for the job makes all the difference.

Our third-year Fitter Machinist Apprentice continues to impress with his attention to detail, craftsmanship, and pride in producing quality work.

Watching his skills develop over the course of his apprenticeship has been incredibly rewarding, and we're proud to play a part in that journey through hands-on mentoring, training, and real-world experience.

These custom clevis eyes were machined from 50mm round bar 316 stainless steel with a ¾" UNC thread to suit the Cylinder Rod.

Every measurement, every cut, and every thread had to be completed with accuracy to ensure the finished components met the required specifications.

Investing in apprentices isn't just about building skills, it's about developing the next generation of highly capable tradespeople who will help shape the future of Australian engineering.

Great work by the team, and especially our apprentice, whose commitment to learning and quality continues to raise the bar.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT | Magnet Grab Refurbishment

♻️There’s a lot that happens behind the scenes to keep the recycling industry moving.

Processing demolition and construction waste, scrap metal, organics, plastics and other recyclable materials rely on robust machinery that can withstand demanding conditions day after day.

We recently partnered with our client to complete a tidy up refurbishment of a four-finger magnet grab often used on a Senne Bogen material handler.

Operating in harsh environments, these attachments are constantly subjected to impact, abrasion and heavy loads, resulting in wear across critical components over time.

This project involved a complete strip-down, inspection, blasting, painting, and reassembly... just a clean-up, really!

Typically rebuilding these grabs involves a lot more work such as:

♻️ Inspecting and rebuilding worn fingers including replacing the tips and adding hard face weld to the most exposed areas.
♻️ Id welding, line boring and replacing pins and bushes to restore original tolerances.
♻️ Repairing cracks and reinforcing high-wear areas.
♻️ Overhauling hydraulic cylinders and replacing seals. And any other damaged components.
♻️ Replacing hoses, electrical cables and wear plates.
♻️ Blast cleaning, painting and comprehensive testing before returning the attachment to service.

Sometimes "just a clean-up" means taking everything apart, restoring every component, and putting it all back together to perform like it should.

Another quality project completed by the team, we helped extend its service life, improve reliability and return it to work ready for the demands of the recycling industry.

PROJECT FLASHBACK | Caterpillar 992K Bucket Manufacturing

Flashback to January 2024: a long weekend, extreme heat, and a call from a valued engineering partner needing urgent support.

Our dedicated team stepped up, working overtime to complete two new Caterpillar 992K excavator buckets at short notice and help keep the project moving.

With heavy loading and constant movement, bucket bores can become worn or oval-shaped over time. The machining tolerance and alignment becomes critical to achieve optimum life cycle.

The scope of the project included:

✅ Accurately aligning centre lines as per specifications
✅ Line boring the bores to the correct diameter and facing the cheek plates to achieve the correct spacings and machine centre lines
✅ Installing the hardened steel bushes, this required the use of liquid nitrogen to shrink the bushes for fitment
✅ Installation of new pins to ensure everything fitted as it should

Another example of the Mig-Co team delivering responsive, high-quality repair solutions when time matters most.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT | Hammer Mill Shaft

For our client, maintaining high production levels relies heavily on the performance of their Hammer Mill. With the shaft operating at speeds between 1,000 and 6,000 RPM to crush materials on impact, wear and tear is inevitable.

Our team was trusted to refurbish critical areas of the hammer mill shaft back to OEM specifications, a task well suited to our 5m mega bore lathe capabilities.

Using our Butler 10m mill bed, we recut the existing keyways, while new keys were manufactured with precision on our CNC mill.

The result? A fully refurbished hammer mill shaft completed efficiently and returned to our client with minimal downtime.

At Mig-Co Engineering, we understand that reliable equipment keeps operations moving.
