This week, we proudly recognise NAIDOC Week and celebrate the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year's theme, "50 Years of Deadly", marks a significant milestone, celebrating five decades of recognising the strength, resilience, leadership and enduring cultures of First Nations peoples. It honours the Elders, advocates, artists and communities who have helped shape our nation, while celebrating the next generation who continue to lead with pride, culture and connection to Country.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on our shared history, celebrate the world's oldest continuing cultures, and continue the journey towards reconciliation.
At SGA, we acknowledge that our offices across Australia stand on the traditional lands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We respectfully acknowledge the Awabakal (Mayfield, NSW), Kaurna (Mawson Lakes, SA), Turrbal and Yuggera (Brisbane and Milton, QLD), Ngunnawal (Belconnen, ACT), Darkinjung (North Wyong, NSW), Bailai (Gladstone, QLD), Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung (Mulgrave, VIC), Bundjalung (Alstonville, NSW), Wiradjuri (Orange, NSW), Burramattagal (Parramatta, NSW), Giabal (Harristown, QLD), and Bindal (Townsville, QLD) peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work. We thank the various Aboriginal Land Council 's around Australia who have created the online databases that helped us understand the Traditional Custodians for each office.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present and recognise the enduring connection of First Nations peoples to Country, culture and community. We also acknowledge their ongoing contributions to our workplaces, industries and communities.
We encourage everyone to take the time to listen, learn and celebrate during NAIDOC Week, whether that's by attending local events, supporting Indigenous businesses and artists, or learning more about the Traditional Custodians of your local area.
