Did you know that we capture all surface water run off and rainfall for reuse? 💧Last year, we reused 5,892ML for operational activities like dust suppression and machine wash downs, as well as on hand for firefighting systems. 💦
We maintain a large network of drains, sumps and ponds to manage water onsite. Major maintenance works to Detention Pond A and an infrastructure upgrade to Detention Pond B has improved our water storage capacity and efficiency. 🙌

Fit for the long term 💪 This is the first steel cut for the fabrication of our new shiploader. We're through planning and design, and this is the milestone step into ex*****on. The new shiploader is part of a significant investment programme committed to our Kooragang Terminal shiploaders, strengthening our infrastructure for decades to come. 👊

💛 A Day in the iconic yellow truck, a big impact for our community. 🚚🍎

Recently, one of the Port Waratah team had the privilege of volunteering alongside long-term Community Partner OzHarvest Newcastle helping rescue and redistribute surplus food across Newcastle.

Riding shotgun on the Newcastle North run with Susan—one of OzHarvest’s 4 dedicated local drivers that day—was an inspiring experience. After nearly 30 years in corporate finance, Susan joined OzHarvest because she wanted a role where she felt she was truly “giving back” to her community. Her passion, energy and commitment were evident at every single stop. 💛

Together, we collected surplus food from 13 food donors and delivered it to 3 local charities, ensuring good food reached people who need it most. By the end of the day, an incredible 1,314kg of food had been rescued and redistributed. 🙌

Port Waratah is proud to support an organisation that is tackling food insecurity and food waste, one meal at a time. 🍽️

📈 Bigger vessels continue to shape the future of global trade, with the vessel charter rate market increasingly favouring the use of Post Panamax ships for economic efficiency and operational advantages.

In 2025, a total of 1,144 vessels loaded through Port Waratah’s terminals, highlighting the growing dominance of larger vessel classes across our operations:

⚓ 50 Handy Class vessels (4%)
⚓ 160 Panamax Class vessels (14%)
⚓ 223 Cape Class vessels (20%)
⚓ 711 Post Panamax Class vessels (62%)

Recently, our leaders stepped inside Newcastle Courthouse for an immersive development experience designed to bring workplace law to life. Delivered in collaboration with Mock Court International, the interactive mock court trial explored the real-world impact workplace decisions can have on people, teams and culture.

The session reinforced our commitment to fostering a workplace where everyone feels safe, supported and respected. 🤝

This month, we’re proud to introduce 11-year-old Marley, son our very own Aaron Hodgson. Marley's vibrant artwork captures a simple but special moment spent with his dad. ❤️

With the cooler weather settling in, Marley’s artwork couldn’t be more perfectly timed — Korean BBQ on a cold evening sounds pretty darn good! 🔥🥢

We love your work, Marley — thank you for sharing this with us! 👏

Finding a viable recycling solution for our large volume of used steel corded conveyor belting has advanced recently. Port Waratah has engaged several quality providers who can reutilise this product into different commercial waste products for secondary use.

Several processing trials were conducted during 2025 and will continue into 2026. The most promising solution so far has been the recycling of the used belting into road construction material, followed by agricultural applications in Australia. To date, more than 1000 tonnes of steel corded belt has been recycled.

It's National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to reflect on and learn more about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and a call for each of us to contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples to benefit all Australians is the core of Reconciliation

This year's theme, All In, makes it clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport, we can't just sit on the sidelines, we've got to take action to make change.
