🔋 Collaborative Engineering in Action | BESS Battery Extractor Tool

A great example of what can be achieved when specialist engineering capabilities come together.
ACM Engineering Services was approached by the client to develop a purpose-built solution to assist operational teams with the safe and controlled removal, maintenance and replacement of large battery cells within Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) modules.

To bring the solution to life, ACM partnered with JMB Engineering and Specialised Engineering Technologies (SET), combining the specialist capabilities of all three businesses.
The project brought together:

⚙️ ACM Engineering Services Pty Ltd – Mechanical engineering, fabrication and overall solution development

📐 JMB Group (Engineering & Automation) – Design and engineering

⚡ SET - Specialised Engineering Technologies PTY LTD – Build, installation and commissioning

The result was a purpose-built BESS Battery Extractor Tool, designed specifically around the client’s operational and maintenance requirements.

Key features include:
• Forklift-mounted for easy positioning and operation
• Fully self-contained with onboard batteries
• Integrated control system
• Variable speed drive motor
• Hand pendant operation for operator control

From initial concept and engineering through to fabrication, build and commissioning, the project was a genuinely collaborative effort between ACM Engineering Services, JMB Engineering and SET.

By bringing together complementary mechanical, engineering, electrical and commissioning capabilities, the team delivered a practical, fit-for-purpose solution designed for real-world BESS maintenance.

SET - Specialised Engineering Technologies PTY LTD is continuing to grow, and we’re looking for experienced people to join our team across three key areas:

🟡 NSW Underground Operations Coordinator
Lead and support our skilled trade teams across underground coal operations, strengthen relationships with our mine partners and help identify new opportunities.

🟢 Mechanical Overhauls Coordinator
Take the lead on the mechanical side of our underground equipment overhauls, working across longwall shields, shuttle cars, continuous miners and other key mining equipment.

🔵 NSW Surface Operations Coordinator
Coordinate and support our teams across open cut coal and CHPP sites, build strong client relationships and help grow SET’s presence across NSW.

These aren’t desk-only positions. We’re looking for people who can lead, coordinate, build relationships and still jump on the tools when needed.

As we continue to grow, we're expanding our mechanical capability to support our rapidly growing electrical overhauls and new-build projects. We're looking for someone who wants to take the lead and help shape this exciting area of the business.

What you'll do:

🔧 Lead the mechanical delivery of underground coal equipment overhauls
⛏️ Work on longwall shields, shuttle cars and continuous miners
🤝 Coordinate projects while remaining hands-on where needed
⚙️ Support our expanding electrical overhauls and new-build teams

What we're looking for:

✅ Qualified Mechanical Fitter (or equivalent)
🦺 Experience overhauling underground coal mining equipment
👥 Strong leadership and coordination skills
📍 Based in Newcastle, the Hunter Valley or Central Coast (or willing to relocate)
