The land before CNC. When machining was measured in tonnes of torque, not spindle speed.
Just 6 RPM. A massive 75 mm (3") width of cut. Solid cast iron.
This is old-school heavy metal machining at its finest.

Torque isn’t actually measured in tonnes. That’s a bit of hyperbole, artistic license for dramatic effect.

What a crazy weekend.

To have the parts you slave away on every day go out there and win the biggest motor race in the country is a feeling like no other. Day in day out you agonise over every detail of what you make to give your team mates the best chance of doing things like this, becoming Bathurst champions.

Cant be more thankful for all of the support we receive from alfexaustralia and _ Without you guys we cant do what we do and go and compete at the highest level.

Another beauty from

Nelson racing engines billet snout that I am a little proud of.

I took this on not exactly knowing what I was in for due to the size of the part and the work envelope I have to work within on this machine, but just trying to do my best to look after one of my customers, and man what a mission it was but I got there in the end and it came out pretty good.

2004 haas_automation VM3 doing things it was never supposed to...a bit of a theme I have going here

& maritoolusa making that inside finish possible 250mm/10" gauge length
5thaxis making it even easier to do

2 operations, this one and the first one which did majority of the roughing and all the insides
Approx 14 hours in machining and countless in programming but I got there in the end.

Just don't ask me how many I scraped....

Looking through our archives we came across this part from CMW. How cool are toolpaths on the floor! Done with a Ball nose.

Dialing in these offroad style foot pegs for the Royal Enfield 650 twins.
Some small tweaks to the previous design as well as adding my signature obsessive compulsive touch to it.

The 2026 WorldSkills Global Skills Challenge, Wollongong, 24 to 28 June.

Australian Skillaroo Bailey Lowes and India's Jagannath Mishra represented their countries in the industrial mechanics challenge, a preparation event for the WorldSkills International Competition in Shanghai, 22 to 27 September 2026.

Awesome to watch two talented young tradespeople put everything they have into their craft on a national stage. LiveTools is proud to support WorldSkills Australia and the next generation of machinists and manufacturers as they work toward the international stage.
