How hard can you push a turning insert?

Matt from HAL Heavy Duty Machining Australia put the Palbit CNMM19HY to the test on Thor, the 50hp Megabore, tackling some serious roughing work and achieving a 10mm depth of cut.

The Palbit insert proved it can more than handle the load. To quote Matt literally, “I had a whale of a time with those CNMM inserts. My favourite so far.”

The 2026 WorldSkills Global Skills Challenge, Wollongong, 24 to 28 June.

Australian Skillaroo Bailey Lowes and India's Jagannath Mishra represented their countries in the industrial mechanics challenge, a preparation event for the WorldSkills International Competition in Shanghai, 22 to 27 September 2026.

Awesome to watch two talented young tradespeople put everything they have into their craft on a national stage. LiveTools is proud to support WorldSkills Australia and the next generation of machinists and manufacturers as they work toward the international stage.

Big shout out to David Baldwin and TAFE NSW for hosting and thank you to everyone who made it happen. All the best to Bailey, Jagannath and every competitor heading to Shanghai 🤝
