Our lead Inspector Donald conduction an Ultrasonic thickness test as part of a commissioning Inspection of an air receiver.
As mentioned in AS3788-2024 4.2.3 “Where measuring degradation rates will be beneficial for managing future equipment health, it is useful to establish a baseline, such as thickness tests or other inspection data, so that the “as built” condition forms the starting point for inspection monitoring”.
With the harsh conditions these underground machines work in, it is expected to have significant future corrosion with either localised or general external wall loss. See attached excerpt from a previous inspection report showing typical external corrosion. For this reason it is essential to get a baseline reading to ensure accurate CR / RL calculations can be made at future inspections.
