The bar’s beer system and associated glass‑front fridges were serviced during the Burpengary venue Preventative Maintenance (PM). Temperature and gas levels were verified.

The challenge:
Beer system cooling directly affects product quality and yield. Incorrect temperatures or CO₂ levels can cause foaming, off‑flavours, and wasted stock. Regular PM checks are essential.

Our solution:
We inspected the beer system monitor, verified CO₂ and temperature readings, and checked all bar fridges for proper operation. No faults were found.

The result:
The beer system is operating correctly, ensuring consistent beverage quality. Regular monitoring as part of the quarterly PM schedule will catch any drift before it affects service.

Drinks fridges and glass chillers were fully verified during the Burpengary venue Preventative Maintenance (PM). Temperature checks and evaporator coil inspections were completed.

The challenge:
Evaporator coils in drinks fridges can accumulate dust or ice, reducing cooling capacity and increasing energy use. Regular PM visual inspection catches problems before they affect product.

Our solution:
We checked each drinks fridge’s evaporator coil for dirt, ice, and airflow obstruction. All coils were clean, and temperatures were verified with a calibrated thermometer.

The result:
All drinks fridges are maintaining correct setpoints with clean coils. Ongoing quarterly PM inspections will prevent future efficiency loss.

Kitchen refrigeration works hard.

During a 3-monthly preventative maintenance service at a Burpengary hospitality venue, we serviced all kitchen preparation refrigeration equipment, including workstations and under-counter bench chillers.

These units operate in tough conditions: heat, grease, constant door openings, heavy use, and busy kitchen service periods. Dirty condensers, blocked filters, and temperature drift can quickly turn into food safety issues if they are not picked up early.

Our technician cleaned all accessible condensers and filters, checked operating temperatures against calibrated probes, and documented the condition of each unit.
All units were operating within specification.

The result:
The kitchen prep fridges and bench chillers are running efficiently, holding safe temperatures, and remain fit for daily service.
This is why quarterly refrigeration PM matters. It reduces breakdown risk, protects stock, supports food safety compliance, and keeps kitchens operating without avoidable interruptions.

A glass chiller at a Burpengary hospitality venue was found running at 11°C during quarterly preventative maintenance.

The cause was simple but serious: the condenser was completely blocked.
When a condenser cannot reject heat properly, the compressor works harder, cabinet temperatures rise, and the risk of breakdown increases. Left unchecked, this unit may have failed to hold food-safe temperatures and could have suffered compressor damage.

Our technician cleaned the condenser thoroughly, then monitored the unit during the day until it pulled back down to setpoint. We also checked and cleaned the other refrigeration condensers onsite as needed.

The result:
The glass chiller is now operating at the correct temperature.
This is exactly why 3-monthly refrigeration PM matters. Small issues get picked up before they become expensive breakdowns, stock loss, food safety risks, or emergency call-outs.

The replacement evaporator sensor arrived, and a return visit was made to install it in the fish dry‑age cabinet.

The challenge:
A faulty sensor not only stops defrost cycles but can also cause the compressor to run too long or short cycle, damaging the unit. The sensor must be correctly positioned to sense true evaporator temperature.

Our solution:
We removed the evaporator cover, disconnected the faulty sensor, and installed the new one. The unit was reassembled and powered on. Controller readings were verified, and the cabinet was monitored as it pulled down to its setpoint of +2°C.

The result:
The new sensor is operating correctly. The cabinet now responds to temperature changes and defrost commands, eliminating the ice‑up issue and protecting the compressor from unnecessary strain.

An upright fish dry‑age cabinet was reported to be icing up. Initial inspection found the unit operating at +2°C, but a forced defrost could not be activated. The controller displayed a curing cabinet program interface.

The challenge:
The evaporator sensor was reading +72°C, an impossible value for a refrigeration system. This faulty reading prevented the controller from initiating defrost cycles, leading to ice accumulation. The curing cabinet controller adds complexity to diagnosis.

Our solution:
We diagnosed the evaporator sensor as the root cause, ordered a replacement component, and labelled the unit to prevent accidental use before repair. The controller type was documented for correct replacement part selection.

The result:
The client now knows exactly what is wrong and why the cabinet is icing up. A replacement sensor was ordered, and a return visit was scheduled for installation.

During a follow‑up inspection, ice had re‑formed at the base of the evaporator coil despite the new controller and successful defrost.

The challenge:
Warm, humid air entering through the drain line can travel up to the evaporator and freeze on contact with the cold coil. This is a common but often overlooked cause of persistent ice‑up at the bottom of the coil.

Our solution:
We cut the existing drain pipework and installed an inline trap (S‑curve) to create a water seal that blocks warm air from rising back into the evaporator section. All joints were checked for leaks, and the drain flow was verified.

The result:
A subsequent recheck found no ice formation on the evaporator. The cold room is now stable, with the drain modification permanently preventing air ingress. Staff were advised to monitor, but the issue has been resolved.

After defrosting the evaporator, the technician suspected the Carel controller had an intermittent fault that may have caused erratic defrost cycles.

The challenge:
An intermittent controller fault can be difficult to diagnose. The system may work normally for days, then fail to initiate a defrost, leading to ice buildup. Without replacement, the problem is likely to return.

Our solution:
We replaced the existing Carel controller with a new Dixell unit, configured all parameters to match the cold room requirements, and tested the system through a full cycle. The new controller responded correctly to temperature changes and defrost demands.

The result:
The cold room now has reliable, accurate control. The risk of future ice‑up due to controller malfunction has been eliminated, and the client has a new, modern controller with clear digital readout.

28/05/2026

A commercial kitchen cold room was reported to be icing up, with the evaporator coil completely blocked by ice. A dirty ceiling filter was also noted as a contributing factor.

The challenge:
A solid block of ice on the evaporator stops airflow, causing the room to warm up and the compressor to run continuously. Restricted airflow from dirty filters makes ice‑up more likely and harder to clear.

Our solution:
We isolated the unit, removed the evaporator fans, and defrosted the coil using hot water and MAPP gas. The drain pan was cleared of ice, all drains were checked, and the dirty filter was noted for replacement. A replacement controller was installed due to suspected intermittent faults.

The result:
The cold room returned to normal operation. The evaporator is now free of ice, airflow is restored, and the filter replacement (once completed) will help prevent rapid re‑contamination of the coil.
