A big thank you to Llew O'Brien MP for taking the time to discuss the challenges facing the Australian fabrication industry. For businesses like NEACH, maintaining sovereign capability is about more than individual projects. It means retaining skilled jobs, apprenticeships, productive capacity and the capability Australia needs to deliver its future infrastructure pipeline.
We appreciated the opportunity to share our perspective from the workshop floor and have a constructive discussion about what is needed to support a strong and sustainable Australian steel industry.

67 tonnes. One carefully planned lift. Very little room for error.

It's all happening at Moorooka Station, including a critical overpass lift with 67 tonnes on the hook. While the lift itself is impressive to watch, the real work started well before the crane arrived.

Detailing, fabrication accuracy, transport planning, rigging, sequencing and site coordination all had to come together to safely position the structure as planned. For NEACH, this is what delivery certainty looks like on major infrastructure.

Queensland Manufacturing Month is a good reminder that major projects are not only built on site, but they are also supported by the capability, skills and investment that sit behind them.

From rail and road infrastructure to health, defence and water projects, NEACH’s work is fabricated here in Queensland by local trades, apprentices and project teams using in-house processing, fabrication and quality systems.

For us, manufacturing capability means more than equipment. It means having the people, systems and experience in place to deliver complex structural steel packages reliably, while continuing to build the skills and capacity needed for the infrastructure pipeline ahead.

Proud to be part of Queensland’s manufacturing sector and the projects shaping the state.

NEACH MD Ryza recently joined QUT (Queensland University of Technology) Civil Engineering students to speak about the role local manufacturing plays in Queensland’s infrastructure pipeline.

The discussion focused on sovereign capability, the importance of retaining skills and manufacturing capacity in Australia, and what government infrastructure investment can leave behind beyond the asset itself: local jobs, apprenticeships, stronger supply chains and capability for future projects.

For the next generation of engineers, these considerations matter. Decisions about design, procurement, and delivery will shape the strength of Australia’s industrial capability for years to come.
