It was a privilege to attend Raymond Lao's presentation on Unitywater's Telemetry SCADA Radio Network Upgrade at the recent ARCIA Brisbane event.

The presentation provided an excellent insight into the planning, design, implementation and operational challenges involved in upgrading one of South East Queensland's most critical communications networks, supporting more than 1,000 water and sewer infrastructure sites across a service area of approximately 5,000 km².

The project successfully transformed an ageing serial radio network into a modern Ethernet-based telemetry system, significantly improving network performance, cybersecurity, diagnostics, redundancy and operational visibility. The sheer scale of the rollout, involving more than 950 radio upgrades over a two-year period while maintaining continuous service, is a testament to the expertise and collaboration of everyone involved.

Goto Electrical was proud to be engaged as the project designer and to contribute to the development of a resilient, future-focused communications network for Unitywater. Working alongside Unitywater's operational technology and network specialists, ICA electrical contractors, Automation Group, and CyberCX, the project delivered substantial improvements in data throughput, network management capabilities and long-term reliability for this critical infrastructure asset.

What stood out most from Raymond's presentation was the transparency in sharing both the successes and the lessons learned, from managing large-scale rollout logistics and hybrid network architectures through to resolving RF interference and frequency reuse challenges. These insights are invaluable for our industry and demonstrate the importance of good engineering, collaboration and innovation in delivering successful outcomes.

Congratulations to Raymond, Ratna Geddam, Unitywater, and all project stakeholders on an outstanding achievement. We are proud to have played a role in helping deliver this important upgrade.

Introducing Our New Capability Statement!!

At Goto Electrical, we're proud to announce the release of our latest Capability Statement.

As our business continues to evolve, we've updated this document to reflect better who we are today—a specialist electrical engineering and control systems company delivering integrated solutions across Electrical Engineering, Automation, SCADA, Operational Technology (OT), Cyber Security, and Project Delivery.

Over the past decade, we've built a reputation for helping utilities, infrastructure owners, councils, contractors, and industrial clients successfully deliver complex projects. Our strength lies in connecting engineering, automation, communications, commissioning, and operational outcomes into a single, coordinated delivery model.

The new Capability Statement showcases just a few of the projects that demonstrate our commitment to delivering practical, reliable, and future-ready solutions that work in the real world.

A big thank you to our team, clients, and project partners who continue to trust us with critical infrastructure and industrial projects.

If you're looking for a partner that can bridge the gap between engineering design, automation, operations, and project delivery, we'd love to connect.

The upcoming European Machinery Regulation, taking effect in January 2027, is quickly becoming a hot topic across our industry.

A recent webinar highlighted several key shifts:

🔹 It will be a Regulation (not a Directive) — meaning it becomes directly enforceable law across the EU

🔹 Substantial modifications to machinery will trigger a new conformity assessment

🔹 Post-purchase modifications will transfer responsibility for the entire machine to the party making the change

These are significant changes, particularly around accountability and lifecycle responsibility.

Given that Australia has historically followed European regulatory trends — often with a lag of several years — it raises an important question:

👉 What impact do you think this will have on Australian manufacturers, integrators, and asset owners?

👉 Are we prepared for a similar shift in responsibility and compliance expectations?

Keen to hear perspectives from others in the field.

What’s truly at stake in your operational technology (OT) environment?

Without adequate cybersecurity measures, you face significant risks, including:
• Production downtime
• Safety incidents
• Loss of asset integrity
• Non-compliance

Implementing effective OT cybersecurity is essential for safeguarding operations, not just protecting data.

Begin with a risk-based approach.

Strong project outcomes need more than good design — they require connected delivery.

At Goto Electrical, our EPCM capability integrates:

Engineering – Practical, compliant and technically robust solutions

Procurement – Informed support for selecting the right equipment and systems

Project Management – Coordinated delivery from concept through to commissioning

This integrated approach helps clients reduce risk, improve visibility, and maintain control across complex electrical, automation, and infrastructure projects.

Whether delivering upgrades, supporting brownfield integration, or implementing new industrial systems, our focus is on outcomes that are both technically sound and commercially practical.

EPCM = Engineering, Procurement and Project Management.

A standout for us at Hannover Messe 2026 was this pair of “teenage” robots putting their clothes away.

The setup was deliberately unstructured—the clothes and bag were simply dropped in place. From there, these cobots used their vision systems to analyse, decide, and act. No predefined positioning. No simple repetition.

This wasn’t just pick-and-place. It was a powerful combination of machine vision, AI, and robotics working together to solve a genuinely complex task.

It’s encouraging to see robotics evolving beyond rigid automation into more adaptive, intelligent applications.

At Goto Electrical, we’re delivering similar advances in high-precision positioning and control systems across major construction, mining, and infrastructure projects—bringing that same level of intelligence into real-world environments.

If you’re exploring what advanced automation could look like in your operations, let’s connect.
