Hands-on learning with the next generation of trades 🛠
The Simmark team hosted a group of local high school students in Nowra as part of the NSW Department of Education’s Trade Readiness Program.
The goal was simple. Give students a real look at what working in the electrical and renewable energy industry actually involves.
Throughout the day they got hands-on with a range of practical activities, including:
• Construction safety, risk assessments and SWMS
• Designing a solar panel installation
• Learning how to strip wire and terminate breakers, plugs and switches
• Using common electrical and solar installation tools
• Dismantling and reinstalling a solar system on a mock roof, including panels, inverter, switchboard and a Tesla Powerwall battery
Students also had the chance to speak with our team about apprenticeships, career pathways and what employers look for when bringing new people into the industry.
Programs like this give students a practical understanding of the trade and help build interest in careers in electrical and renewable energy.
Thanks to the NSW Department of Education and the participating schools for partnering with us on this initiative and helping give students practical exposure to the trade.
We look forward to hosting more sessions like this in the future.
