What does it take to build one of Australia's most innovative agricultural facilities?

In the latest Master Builders Association of Victoria President's Podcast, our Senior Project Manager Don Peteranna sits down with MBV President Steven Peluso, sharing the story behind the Stacked Farm project at Melbourne Airport – a groundbreaking vertical farming facility set to transform how fresh produce is grown.

From navigating airport construction constraints and integrating advanced automation systems, to managing continuous design evolution and delivering ahead of programme, this project showcases the power of collaboration, innovation and early contractor involvement.

As Don explains, success wasn't just about the building. It was about bringing together great people, trusted partners and a shared commitment to solving complex challenges.

Project Completion | Kennards Self Storage Chatswood

Total Construction has completed the repurpose of an existing building, previously a disaster recovery centre, into a functional and compliant self storage facility.

As demand for self storage continues to grow across Chatswood, Kennards Self Storage set out to expand its capacity and create more storage solutions for local residents and businesses.

Along the way, the team navigated several unforeseen challenges, including extensive concrete cancer remediation within the basement slab, deeper-than-anticipated rock conditions and complex neighbouring property approvals. Through close collaboration and proactive problem-solving, the project was successfully completed on schedule.

A standout innovation involved using advanced 3D scanning technology to map existing services and adapt the facility's sprinkler system, avoiding the need for a full replacement and delivering significant value for the client.

The completed facility significantly increases storage capacity, helping Kennards Self Storage meet growing demand while strengthening its long-term operational capability in Chatswood.

Project Win | Baker Bleu Artarmon Production Facility

We're pleased to announce that we have been awarded the delivery of the new Baker Bleu Artarmon Production Facility, a purpose-built bakery manufacturing facility on Sydney's Lower North Shore.

The project will transform an existing warehouse into a modern food-grade production facility, supporting the continued growth of Baker Bleu across NSW.

The project scope includes:
• Full fitout of a commercial bakery manufacturing facility
• Dedicated bread and pastry production areas
• Installation and relocation of specialised bakery equipment from Melbourne
• Cool rooms, freezers and proofing facilities
• Mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and fire services upgrades

Baker Bleu has earned a loyal following across Melbourne and Sydney, supplying artisan breads and pastries to its own stores as well as leading cafés and restaurants. This new facility represents an exciting next step in supporting the company's NSW expansion plans.

A big congratulations to everyone involved in securing this opportunity. We look forward to bringing another high-quality food manufacturing project to life.

Groundbreaking at ‘The Cunningham’ Retirement Living, Ashfield NSW

We were proud to join Ashfield Baptist Homes and project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of ‘The Cunningham’, marking the commencement of this significant retirement living development in Sydney's Inner West.

This milestone represents years of planning, collaboration and perseverance. First lodged for approval in 2013, the project has progressed through multiple design iterations, technical challenges and statutory approvals to achieve a significantly improved outcome that aligns with ABH's long-term vision.

Total Construction has worked alongside Ashfield Baptist Homes and EPM Projects for more than two years, helping align the design with the client's objectives, operational requirements and budget.

Strong alignment and shared values between our organisations have laid strong foundations for a successful project.

Over the coming year, we look forward to delivering a facility that will support older members of our community and deliver a place of comfort, connection and enhanced quality of life.

Fernando Machado: 5 Years Strong

We’re proud to be celebrating Fernando Machado’s 5 Year anniversary at Total Construction. As a Project Manager within our NSW team, Fernando has been a core part of the delivery of several successful projects including StorHub Self Storage Australia Miranda, The Vault Rouse Hill, and Kennards Self Storage Minto.

Joining the team as a Contracts Administrator, it quickly became clear that Fernando had the ability, drive and leadership qualities to take the next step, earning a well-deserved promotion to Project Manager. He is now leading the team in the delivery of ‘The Cunningham’ Ashfield Baptist Homes retirement living development.

Luigi Giordano, NSW Construction Manager commented “Fernando has gone from strength to strength, building excellent relationships with clients, subcontractors and colleagues while always remaining committed to the success of his projects and the wider team. His development is a credit to his hard work and dedication, and I am proud of everything he has achieved so far.”

Congratulations Fernando on reaching this milestone and thank you for your contribution to Total Construction over the past five years.

Supporting MATES In Construction 💪

Last week, our teams came together to support MATES in Construction and R U OK? Day, hosting BBQs across our sites nationwide.

These events provided an opportunity to pause, connect with colleagues and ask R U OK? – not just today but any day.

The construction industry can be challenging and conversations around mental health have never been more important. Whether it's checking in with a workmate, listening without judgement or encouraging someone to seek support, a simple conversation can change a person’s life.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated and helped make these events a success. Your support contributes to the important work MATES in Construction and R U OK? does to improve mental health awareness and su***de prevention. Total Construction has pledged to dollar match the donations to both causes.

At Total Construction, we recognise that safety is not just physical but extends to mental and emotional wellbeing. We’re focused on creating a culture where people feel supported, valued and safe in the workplace.
