Designing a headquarters for Australia’s leading security company?

Start with function. End with something they’ll actually want to work in.

IDFC Senior Designer Tanya walks through the design process for MSS Security’s new National HQ - a project that came to us with extensive functional requirements but no defined aesthetic.

The challenge: take their corporate values, Integrity, Teamwork, Attitude, Performance, Passion and translate that into a space that works as hard as their people do.

Whilst security environments can come with their own constraints, we saw an opportunity to balance safety with openness. By weaving in breakout areas and shared zones, the space supports both focus and human connection.

We’re not giving too much away just yet. The final reveal is going to be worth the wait.

Working with Helm Group on this one and loving the partnership with on their polished concrete veneer system.

These guys know what they’re doing: 10-12mm system that goes over pretty much any substrate you throw at it. Mixed on site, hand troweled, then ground back to whatever finish the design calls for. No grout lines, no expansion joints unless the substrate already has them. Clean, consistent, and built to last.

We’re always hunting for suppliers like this across , , and .

Local means we don’t get caught out with shipping delays or quality surprises that can mess up a program. When Pangaea says it’ll be there Tuesday, it’s there Tuesday. When they say it’ll look like the sample, it looks like the sample.

The technical stuff matters too; Green Tag certified, works on stairs and benchtops, minimal maintenance once it’s down. Great thermal mass properties. Customisable colours so the design team can get exactly what they’re after.

At the end of the day, we’re only as good as the people we work with. Pangaea gets that delivery isn’t just about the product - it’s about showing up when you say you will with what you promised.

That’s how projects get delivered on time.

We may be operating out of a temporary setup while we build out our new HQ—but the values that built this business haven’t gone anywhere.

Out of 5 tenderers, (during a pandemic!) we were honoured to be the successful candidate to take on this 1550m² construct-only project for Servcorp. Inside an A-Grade building constructed by Walker Corporation, we had a 12-week project timeline to relocate personnel from existing premises and transition them into a new facility. We constructed 78 services offices, custom-made reception, coffee bar, booth seating, quiet rooms, acoustic booths, and much more.
