Hi All
It’s been a couple of weeks since my last post but here I am. I was going to talk about climate change but that will have to wait for another time. Except to say I have sold a renewable energy system to anyone for the reasons of climate. It has always been about financial reasons.
So right now I am in Loren on the Victorian coast at the Solar Energy Installers Association annual conference. I was listening to many speakers today but the session that made me sit up and listen was from the energy networks and the Victorian government. They were talking about “Back stop”. This is where the power networks can turn off your solar export to the grid if there is too much power in the network. Yes. Too much solar power. And the more solar we export to the grid the less stable and resilient the power grid will become. Why? So grid resilience relies on mechanical momentum. This means power generation cannot be easily affected by external factors like storms, technology failures or other environmental factors. Big generators like coal, gas, nuclear and hydro. All of these have heavy metallic rotating generators. Solar inverters don’t have this resilience. If there is a glitch on the grid they will trip off and the grid can collapse. Guess what just happened in Spain and Portugal. Exactly this. Something affected the grid and caused the frequency to drop a bit and the grid was not resilient enough to cope and it shut down. Not enough mechanical momentum in the generation on the grid. So what can we do? Get batteries for your solar system and don’t export to the grid. So you won’t be contributing to the problem and if the grid does fail you can run from your own power storage.
I’m sure there will be a few comments about this. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Cheers. Gary

It’s about to get cold outside. ❄️ ☁️ Are you ready? On a cold week, you need efficient battery storage.

How is yours? Working well? Struggling?

When was the last time you had it serviced or checked for efficiency? Not sure? 🔋 🪫

Call Gary to ask whether it may be time because who wants to be left out in the cold?

Did you know?

That you may experience an increase in your electricity bill if wires have been chewed by birds, rodents or marsupials? This prevents your solar system from performing at its maximum power output

This could cause a fire! 🔥

Worse case scenario, the system may show no indication of chewed wires or a problem at all and still be close to catching fire 💥 😳 ‼️

SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS

If you’ve noticed any of the following:
- a red inverter light 🔴
- your power bill has increased unexpectedly $$
- your inverter isn’t putting out the power it used to ⚡️
- you’ve not had your system checked in a while

➡️ Get your solar system checked ASAP.

Q. As the name suggests, the charge controller regulates how much power goes from the solar array to which part of the setup? (Clue: It’s like the “backup” part of the system that kicks in on a cloudy day)

A. It’s the batteries. On a week like this week, you need efficient battery storage. How is yours? Working well? Struggling? When was the last time you had it serviced or checked for efficiency? Not sure? Call Gary to ask whether it may be time because who wants to be left out in the cold on a gloomy day? Phone: 5864 1162

Do you know whether your solar system is working properly or at all? Is it saving the money that you think it should be? Is it electrically safe?

Are there possible unseen dangers such as burnt or cracked solar cells or leaking rooftop isolating switches etc.?

Baker Renewable Energy not only install solar systems, they also test, service and repair systems. They have 30 years experience in solar and 40 years experience in fault finding in electrical systems. Call Gary on mobile: 0428579083.

Do you know if your solar power system is safe, working properly or working at all?

We at Baker Renewable Energy can tell you.

A simple inspection of your solar power system can answer the above questions.

We can check the solar panels on the roof.
We can check the inverter.
We can check the isolation switches and cabling.

If your solar system is not working properly, it could be costing you money or may even be unsafe.

Call us to have your solar power system checked.

Hi everyone. Yesterday we fixed up the solar system that was in our previous post. As you can see from the photo, one of the isolators has completely melted in a small fire.
What is not shown is the inverter above the isolation switch. It was also damaged and had to be replaced. This issue turned into a multi thousand dollar repair. This was covered by the customers insurance.
This raises two issues. Please make sure your solar system is covered by insurance. So call your insurance company now. The second is to have your solar system checked.
What we find when we conduct these solar system health checks is that water has been in the isolation switch, either on the roof or next to the inverter. This can cause a fire.
There many other things we look at when we check solar systems. Too many to mention here.
Do you know the health of your solar system? If not, get it checked for your piece of mind, and knowing that it’s saving you money on your power bill.
Call us now to have your solar system checked.

This what can happen if you don't get your solar power system checked reguarly. You would have received a letter from your power supplier recently asking you to get you system checked. We call these checks "Health Checks". It is very important to maintain your solar power system. Call or inbox us today.

POWER OUTAGES

Have you lost power in the load shedding today? Time to consider a battery backup hybrid solar system or an off grid system. Our farm benefits from an off grid water pumping system. When the local grid goes down our cattle and gardens still have water access.
