💧 It’s National Water Week and a great chance to give a shout out to our awesome environment team that track water levels, abstraction and movement across our bore network to support safe and efficient mining and processing operations.

And there’s plenty to keep an eye on! We manage 34 active groundwater monitoring points, including 17 production bores and 17 monitoring bores, plus water metering infrastructure across our wastewater ponds and camp supply lines. All that data feeds into our new Envago environmental monitoring system, helping us make smarter and more timely decisions as we continue to grow.

After our Waihi mine portal blast announcement last month, a number of our followers asked ..Why is it called Waihi? Here's the story! ⛏️💛

This 1926 newspaper clipping below, looks back at the history of the Waihi mine — a history that began in October 1899, when prospectors Patrick Glenny, Charles Mace, his son Miller “the boy prospector” Mace and Walter Davys discovered gold in Menzies.

After finding three gold reefs, they staked out the Waihi and adjoining Melrose mines. The Waihi mine was named after a New Zealand mine where Walter Davys had previously worked!!

Exactly 100 years after the article was published, we’re back making news at the same location, with a new underground mine! It’s a fascinating snapshot of the mine’s early story and a reminder that the ground we’re working on today has been part of the region's mining history for well over a century.

It was 'mission possible' for our grads who made the great escape!

We recently kicked off our Graduate Endurance workshops with 12 of our geology, mining engineering and surveying graduates! 🙌 We covered growth mindset and managing feedback, and then wrapped up the session at Prison Island where they outsmarted the cells and broke free!

The workshops will run around three times a year and focus on developing our graduates' personal and professional skills to support their career at OBM.

As Transcend Trails' leading partner, we didn't want our site teams to miss out, so we brought Transcend to them! 🏃

The Transcend directors flew out to host two run or walk events, complete with giant inflatable start and finish arches! The turnout was fantastic with around 80 people either tackling our undulating 4.5km Bullroarer Trail at Riverina camp or 1-2 laps of the flatter 2.6km Malleefowl Trail at Davyhurst camp!

One of the biggest surprises was how many people tried the trails for the first time during the events and are now keen to keep using them to stay active while on swing!

A huge thank you to Mitch and Shane from Transcend and all our behind-the scenes OBM team who did an amazing job arranging the events! We're already planning the next!

A milestone like this takes a huge amount of work behind the scenes and on the ground!! To everyone involved in making it happen this is an fantastic achievement and just shows that we are a team with a winning mindset!!

We also watched the countdown live from the our Head office in Subiaco and celebrated with cake!!

💥There’s only one way to open a new portal…and that’s with a BANG! 💥

We’re excited to announce that underground mining at Waihi has begun! Waihi is our third underground mine launched in three years and is one of four operations supporting our strategy - to become Australia’s next 300,000oz gold producer!

And there’s plenty to be excited about underground. Waihi is a large, under-drilled gold system with multiple high-grade areas, including Golden Pole, which has an Ore Reserve grade of 5.0g/t. And recent drilling has added even more excitement with the discovery of the new Midnight prospect. Results there have delivered some exceptional grades, including 11.5m @ 26.0g/t. 10.3m @ 3.4g/t and 1.6m @ 65.9g/t gold!

And there’s more to come. We’re expecting Waihi Underground to start delivering high-grade ore from mid-2027, helping ramp up production ahead of our new 3.0Mtpa processing plant at Davyhurst coming online in early 2028!
