Project Completion | Cape Lambert Water Upgrade

The DM Civil and VDE Engineering team has successfully completed a critical water infrastructure upgrade at Cape Lambert, delivering the project ahead of schedule and under budget.

Throughout the works, our site team navigated logistical and site challenges, applying practical design optimisations to achieve a successful outcome while maintaining a strong focus on safety, constructability, and the long-term operational and maintenance requirements of the asset.

A big thank you to our dedicated site crew, construction partner VDE Engineering and our client’s management team for their collaboration and commitment throughout the project.

A great result for everyone involved and a credit to the teamwork, experience and practical problem-solving demonstrated on site.

PROJECT LAUNCH | CLEMENTINE BOULEVARD

DM Civil is now constructing the pressure main portion of our contract in Jandakot.

Our open trench crews are laying the DN450 PE main within trench boxes to protect the existing bore main and other services, while maintaining traffic alongside the construction corridor.

The challenging task of laying pipe strings within the trench boxes and beneath the bracing requires experienced crews, supported by our in-house plastic welding division.

We will shortly commence the trenchless sections of the main using horizontal directional drilling (HDD). This installation technique will help improve landholder access along the route, while reducing dewatering requirements and road reinstatement.

A solid start to the project and a credit to the crews working through the complexities of each stage of the installation and the site constraints.

Our Future | Building on the Legacy of DM Civil

For more than 50 years, DM Civil has been shaped by its people, strong relationships and a shared commitment to delivering quality work.

As General Managers, Scott Feilding and Grant Craven reflect on the foundations established by those before them and the responsibility of carrying these values forward.

Their focus is on supporting our people, strengthening long-term relationships and creating opportunities for the next generation, while continuing to deliver the critical infrastructure Western Australia relies on.

In this video, Scott and Grant share their thoughts on DM Civil’s next chapter and what it means to build on a 50-year legacy.

OUR PEOPLE | Alkimos Pipeline Alliance

Building a successful Alliance starts with bringing together the right people, experience and expertise.

We’re proud to see DM Civil General Manager Grant Craven featured as part of the Alkimos Pipeline Alliance team, sharing what our people and experience bring to the delivery of this significant project for Water Corporation.

DM Civil has a long history of delivering water infrastructure across Western Australia, and it’s our people, their knowledge and their relationships that continue to make the difference.

Together with our Alliance partners, Georgiou, we’re combining local capability and decades of Water Corporation experience to safely deliver critical infrastructure for our growing communities.

LEGACY PROJECT | Bibra Lake

Long before trenchless technology became an industry standard, DM Civil was already putting it to work.

After purchasing our first tunnel boring unit in 1984, we expanded our capabilities in 1986 with an American Augers tunnel boring machine. Since then, DM Civil has become a major contributor to trenchless technology in Western Australia.

Today, we provide flexible solutions for the trenchless installation of infrastructure from DN150 to DN1600 across a wide range of ground conditions. Our capabilities include slurry shield and rock microtunnelling, directional drilling, pilot auger boring, auger boring, rock cutter heads, reinforced concrete caisson shafts and sheet piling.

At Bibra Lake, our team used auger boring to install underground infrastructure with significantly less surface disruption than traditional open trenching, reducing impacts on roads, surrounding properties and the local community.

The equipment may have changed over the years, but the thinking behind it hasn’t: find the right solution, solve difficult problems and deliver with precision.

A proud project from the DM Civil archives as we celebrate 50 years in business.

LEGACY PROJECT | Farnley Street Sewer Main

A milestone in DM Civil’s microtunnelling legacy.

In 1992, at Farnley Street in Mount Lawley , DM Civil was engaged to replace 372 metres of badly corroded sewer main, originally installed in 1935, along with four manholes.

With established street trees growing just four metres above the old sewer, open excavation posed a significant risk. Using horizontal boring, pipe jacking and purpose-built microtunnelling equipment, our team completed three drives of 90, 114 and 120 metres while the existing sewer remained operational.

The result was a new sewer main installed with minimal disruption to residents and traffic, while protecting the character and environment of the surrounding streets.

The project demonstrated an approach that continues to define DM Civil today, developing practical solutions to complex engineering challenges and delivering them with precision.

IN MEMORIAM
As we farewell Paul “Rabbit” Dougan, we remember his longstanding work ethic, his outstanding ability to develop innovative construction solutions, and the way he led teams by including everyone in the journey.

Paul was generous with his time and always sought the best outcome in his work and for his team, whoever that may have been at the time. Everyone at DM Civil will miss his laughter and friendship.

Paul was a mentor and an inspiration to many younger staff members whom he trained and who looked up to him. They will proudly carry his skills and knowledge into the future.

Rest in peace, Rabbit. Always remembered.

We’re proud to announce that DM Civil’s ATCO Caversham Emergency Gas Pipeline project has been named a finalist in the $2–5 million category of the 2026 WA Earth Awards.

Following severe erosion that impacted a major gas transmission pipeline, ATCO Gas engaged our team to deliver an urgent solution. A design and construction process that would typically take months was safely completed in just 44 days, helping protect the gas supply to thousands of homes, businesses and critical public services.

Working within a culturally and environmentally sensitive area, we installed a new pipeline beneath the brook using horizontal directional drilling.

This recognition reflects the exceptional planning, strong subcontractor partnerships and dedication of everyone involved. We’re incredibly proud of our team for delivering this complex project safely, without incident and in record time.

Thank you to ATCO Gas, our project partners and the Civil Contractors Federation WA for this recognition. We look forward to celebrating with our industry peers at the WA Earth Awards Gala dinner on 16 October.
