Big push toward renewables in upcoming federal budget 🔋

The Federal Government is continuing to accelerate its commitment to clean energy through its “Future Made in Australia” strategy. The upcoming budget is expected to further strengthen investment across renewable energy and low-emissions industries, signalling a long-term shift in how Australia powers its economy.

Key focus areas include expanded support for solar and wind projects, large-scale battery storage, electric vehicle uptake, and the development of Australia’s critical minerals sector to support clean energy manufacturing.

A major highlight is the fast-tracking of a $5 billion Net Zero Fund, aimed at boosting domestic clean energy production and encouraging more local manufacturing capabilities in the renewable space.

Beyond emissions reduction, the strategy is also about strengthening Australia’s economic resilience, reducing reliance on overseas supply chains and positioning the country as a key global player in clean energy technology.

👉 In short, the government is increasingly linking Australia’s future economic growth with renewable energy investment and energy independence.

Energy Saving Tip – Switch to Efficient Lighting 💡

Lighting is one of the easiest areas to improve your home or workplace energy efficiency. Replacing old incandescent or halogen bulbs with LED lighting can significantly reduce electricity use, with LEDs using up to 80% less energy and lasting much longer.

Beyond just swapping bulbs, consider how lighting is used day-to-day. Turn lights off when leaving a room, make the most of natural daylight where possible, and choose the right brightness level for each space to avoid unnecessary energy use.

For new builds or renovations, planning your lighting layout early, including task lighting and energy-efficient fittings, can further optimise performance and reduce long-term costs.

Tip: LEDs may cost slightly more upfront, but their longer lifespan and lower running costs make them a smart investment over time.

🏢 What is a Section J Report and Why It Matters ⚡

A Section J Report ensures commercial buildings meet the energy efficiency requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC). It’s a key step in gaining building approval, and creating smarter, more sustainable spaces.

🔹 What it Covers:

Insulation & building sealing
Windows and glazing performance
HVAC systems & ventilation
Lighting, power & hot water efficiency
Energy monitoring systems

🔹 Why it’s Important:

Required for most commercial building approvals
Reduces energy costs and environmental impact
Improves long-term building value and performance

💡 Did you know? Section J applies to offices, hotels, warehouses, and other commercial spaces, making it essential for many projects.

With the right guidance, navigating Section J can be simple while keeping your project compliant and on track.

Australia’s shift to electric vehicles is accelerating ⚡🚗

With EVs now making up around 15% of new car sales, the way we think about energy use at home is changing fast. Charging an EV adds a significant load to household energy demand, making smart, energy-efficient design more important than ever.

From improved thermal performance to integrating solar and battery systems, the homes we design today need to be ready for tomorrow’s energy needs.

As transport and buildings become more connected, energy modelling is no longer just a compliance step, it’s a key part of future-proofing every project.

Sometimes the best upgrade doesn’t cost extra.

Adjusting layout and glazing placement to suit the block’s orientation can dramatically influence performance outcomes 📐

A small design tweak early in concept stage can prevent larger compliance adjustments later.

MYTH: Energy modelling is only necessary for large-scale developments. 🏢

FACT: Projects of all sizes can benefit from energy insights, helping identify opportunities for efficiency and cost savings early on. 💡

Don’t wait until construction begins, smart energy planning pays off no matter the project size. ⚡💰
