On 6 September 1911, a group of tradesmen gathered at the Builders Exchange in Perth and agreed to form an Employer Union for the Painting, Decorating and Signwriting Industry. That handshake moment became the Master Painters, Decorators and Signwriters Association of WA. And in 2026, we celebrate 115 years strong as MP&DA.
From generations of apprentices trained (many of whom have themselves become members) to a hard-fought campaign for Painters Registration that gave the trade the standing it deserved, and the ongoing Awards for Excellence that recognise the best of the best— our story has always been about people who take pride in quality workmanship and building a lasting legacy.
Here's to the artisans and visionaries who built this Association, including all of our current day members — and to the next chapter yet to unfold.
