Netting is up in Horsham! Faba beans present a novel breeding challenge: preventing bees entering the trial plots & cross pollinating our pure breeding lines. Netting our plots is a critical step in developing the next generation of varieties. Well done team Horsham for their hard work in getting this netting up.

Every new variety starts with investment in research, people and infrastructure.

That's why we're excited to see steady progress on InterGrain's new purpose-built facility in Perth. Designed specifically to support modern plant breeding, the new headquarters will strengthen our ability to develop improved wheat, barley, oat and faba bean varieties for Australian growers now and into the future.

Importantly, this investment is fully funded through End Point Royalty (EPR) revenue, demonstrating how industry investment is being reinvested into the breeding programs that support Australian agriculture.

Thank you to BADGE Construction and Armstrong Collective for their work on this exciting project.

We were delighted to host students from Hale School at InterGrain as part of their upcoming Japan Economics Study Tour.

The visit provided students with an introduction to Western Australia's noodle wheat industry, including how wheat varieties are developed, tested and connected to international markets. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the role innovation and plant breeding play in supporting a successful export supply chain.

Importantly, the visit helped connect consumers with how their food is produced and highlighted the wide range of career opportunities available across the grains industry, from science and research through to production, trade and global marketing.

Their journey doesn't stop here. As part of the tour, students will now follow the noodle supply chain through Japan, visiting a port, flour mill, noodle manufacturer and restaurant to see first-hand how Australian wheat is transformed into products enjoyed by consumers every day.

We're proud to support educational opportunities that help students understand the connections between agriculture, international trade and global food production, and we wish the boys a safe and rewarding trip to Japan 🇯🇵🍜

We're proud to support Christopher Watts and his WAARC–Grower Group Alliance Honours Scholarship project investigating biological nitrification inhibition (BNI) in wheat.

Working alongside Living Farm, Curtin University and the InterGrain wheat team, Christopher is exploring whether BNI wheat lines can improve nitrogen efficiency under WA conditions—helping growers get more value from applied nitrogen while reducing losses.

We look forward to seeing the results from this exciting research being conducted across a range of WA environments throughout 2026.

Congratulations Chris, and thank you to WA Agricultural Research Collaboration and Grower Group Alliance for supporting the next generation of agricultural researchers. 👏

🌱 WAARC-GGA Honours Scholarship recipient Christopher Watts has been spotted out in the field at Kendenup, collecting soil cores for nitrogen analysis across his future trial plots.

Chris has just started his Honours at Curtin University and was matched with Living Farm through the WAARC-Grower Group Alliance Honours Partnership Program. His research is looking at yield impact of biological nitrification inhibition (BNI) traits in CIMMYT wheat lines under different nitrogen fertiliser rates in WA conditions.

No better cure for Argentina's World Cup heartbreak than a dose of bean therapy for our Faba Bean Breeder Fede. 🫘💙

Fede has been clocking up the kilometres, travelling across the country to visit trial sites as InterGrain settles into leading Australia's national faba bean breeding program.

From checking trial progress to connecting with growers and research partners, it's been a busy few months as we build on the program's strong foundations and help deliver improved faba bean varieties for Australian growers.

Plenty of kilometres, plenty of beans, and hopefully enough bean therapy to ease the pain! 🌱🚗
