A great opportunity to once again participate in the annual Tactic - Connecting Regional Industry Conference and Trade Expo in Port Augusta at the end of July.

Our Local Business Priority Program is an important commitment for our site, with this event being a platform for our Procurement Team to engage with existing or prospective suppliers that are local to our operations. Thanks to Jarrad Davies, Darryl Jebb, Francine Combe, Jackie Maritz and Jo Bruce for representing us this year.

During the event, our General Manager, Darin Cooper, presented a business update detailing recent key works on-site. This included successful capability demonstration for the production of commercial Antimony metal, a new Sulphuric Acid Road Loading Station upgrade and, alongside Australian State and Federal Governments, progressing the feasibility studies to determine the requirements that will enable further critical metals production in Australia.

Our 2026 Long Service Awards Presentation Dinner was held this past Friday night at the Memorial Oval Function Centre.

This important annual tradition is an opportunity to recognise those who have reached a milestone as part of the vital role they play in the longevity of our operations.

A total of 28 recipients were awarded on the night across the 10, 25, 40 and 45-Years Service categories.

A shoutout to the Local, State and Federal Government representatives who were able to join us for this great celebration of our people, namely: Lawrence Ben MP - Assistant Minister for Steel, Copper, Critical Metals and Minerals, Geoff Brock MP - Independent State Member for Stuart, Tom Venning MP - Federal Member for Grey, Justin Hanson MLC and Alan Zubrinich, Deputy Mayor of Port Pirie Regional Council.

Thanks too, to a range of trusted local vendors who contribute each year to the event’s success: Flower Girls (Event Presentation), Fork & Cork (Catering), Automatic Print (Event Collateral), Hip Photography, Fossick Design, Steve McBride Acoustic and Dimeo.

A big congratulations again, to those recognised, and we look forward to sharing a full photo album from the night in coming weeks.

For the fourth year in a row, we have proudly supported what has quickly become a fulfilling, annual NAIDOC Week tradition at Port Pirie West Primary School.

Nyrstar's sponsorship contributes to the printing of a school uniform polo shirt that features a meaningful Aboriginal art design on its back.

This year’s design outline - completed by local artist Tamika before Jordy in the school’s Aboriginal Education completed the design with input from the Pirie West community - highlights the pathway from primary to secondary education in Nukunu Country, with Port Pirie West Primary School at the centre.

The initiative, led by the school’s Aboriginal Education Officer, Danny Martin, has been instrumental in uplifting school attendance among Aboriginal students in the past five years, and fostering cultural connection and celebration in the school's community.

Today, Pirie GM Darin Cooper held a joint press conference with Premier Peter Malinauskas, Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis and Geoff Brock MP in Adelaide at the same time as Hobart GM Todd Milne was with Minister Tim Ayres and Premier Jeremy Rockliff in Hobart, announcing confirmation of Nyrstar Australia’s next phase of transitionary funding from the Australian, South Australian and Tasmanian Governments to progress its Australian metals modernisation program.

The AUD$105 million package will support Nyrstar Australia to progress feasibility studies for modernising its operations in Port Pirie and Hobart – including how they can expand production of critical and strategic minerals and metals – positioning them to compete in the next generation of global minerals and metals production and continue providing an important sovereign capability for Australia.

Speaking in Hobart, Minister Ayres described the importance of Australia building its position in critical metal supply chains which are so vital for information technology data centres and the digital and defence economies.
