Practising with biochar!!
Rendering our first wall with this amazing natural material.
I have to say I’m very pleased with the results 😃
Biochar is charcoal that is produced by pyrolysis of biomass, yet in the absence of oxygen in a type of thermal decomposition, and is quite widely used as a soil ameliorant for both carbon sequestration and soil health benefits. We are also using it now as a building material, replacing Portland cement in concrete and as a substitute to cement mortar and lime in plasters and renders.
Biochar is a stable solid that is rich in carbon and can endure in soil for thousands of years. Though Biochar has miraculous effects on soil and compost - is good for more than just your garden and has many other uses that can be integrated into new organic systems for farming, building, clothing, electronics and a whole range of consumer products. Two of biochar’s properties are its extremely low thermal conductivity and its ability to absorb water up to 6 times its weight. These properties mean that biochar is just the right material for insulating buildings and regulating humidity.
All points to healthy indoor environments!
