Before height, finish, or attachments are considered, site conditions come first.
Wind region and terrain category shape how a pole performs over its lifetime, influencing loads, deflection, and overall engineering requirements from the outset.
In practical terms:
🔵 Wind region defines the wind speeds a structure must withstand
🔵 Terrain category affects how wind behaves around the site
🔵 Exposure conditions influence loading and long-term performance
If these inputs aren’t clearly defined early, it can lead to assumptions that don’t align with real conditions, increasing risk during approvals, installation, and future performance.

Barton Park in Banksia, NSW has been transformed into a vibrant community and sporting precinct 👏
Once a landfill, it’s now Bayside Council’s largest recreation hub, with fields, courts and lighting designed for safe night use.

Why does deflection matter for CCTV poles?
Because when cameras are mounted to steel poles, movement in wind conditions can affect camera performance ,including image stability and clarity.
That’s why confirming camera type and deflection requirements early is important. It helps ensure the pole design aligns with the application, site conditions and compliance requirements; supporting a reliable, fit‑for‑purpose outcome.

🛠️ 1998 - GM Poles began operating out of the Rollpress Gurr factory in Wacol. A small, dedicated team with a clear focus on engineered outcomes and building long‑term capability.

🛠️ 2003 - We moved into our purpose‑built facility in Carole Park, an important milestone that supported growth, investment in infrastructure, and expanded manufacturing capability.

🛠️ 2019 - We relocated to our current, significantly larger facility in Richlands. Today, this site is Australia’s largest pole manufacturing facility, designed to support evolving project requirements, continued growth, and a broader national footprint.

Each location represents a chapter in our story, shaped by the people who’ve worked here, the projects we’ve contributed to, and the steady evolution of Australian infrastructure over nearly three decades.

Bob Gibbs Park (Springfield) lighting upgrade, completed 2025💡

GM Poles worked with Electrical Services Queensland to supply and install 2 × 25m and 4 × 22m sports lighting poles at Bob Gibbs Park, supporting safer, more reliable night‑time use of the venue for local sport and community activity.
